Just a bit excited, won a bid for a 71 TR6 from a car charity.
Body looks quite solid, but the rest of the car is a mistery.
Pick it up tomorrow, its missing one wheel, the brake pedal go's straight to the floor and I didn't even get to try and start it. Sure will be nice if the drive train works without total rebuilds.

Congratulations. Sounds interesting. Let us know more as you sort things out.

That's awesome! Keep us posted on progress, and let's see some pics!

Good man! Now go find a 3rd, and 4th and so on.

Send pictures when you can!

What you really need is a different one for each day of the week. Make sure they are different colors so you can tell them apart!

Great news so far, opened the trunk and found a brand new top for the car. Looks like the car has some wiring issues and so far doesn't turn over but I put it in 4th gear and gave it a push by hand and the motor turned right over. Has what looks like a good duel exhaust system and even the frame looks good.
Front rotors are rusty but look good and the pads are thick.
Gas smells like varnish and the carbs are gummed up, but the last tag on the plate is 1999 so thats to be expected.
Wonder if I can drive it next Thursday to the Triumph club meeting? I have a week off.
Any good write up's for cleaning up my carbs?
Thank Ed

They have a Triumph club in Minn.?
Is that the Frostbite Falls Chapter?

Yes there is a club in Minnesota, based in the twin cities its called " Minnesota Triumphs"

More good news talked with the last owner and he nicely answered some questions. Motor only has about 50 miles after a complete pro rebuild and a new clutch.
The reason that he quit driving the car was a wire burned up under the hood. I found the burnt wire and it looks like a few other wires are disconnected.
Got the starter working and the compression was about 190 across the board.
Wow sometimes things are great.

should be arrested for having too much fun....

Have a wiring article for a 71 TR6?
I don't know if you're aware of this resource, but https://advanceautowire.com/ has good accurate wiring diagrams. Click on "Stock Schematics" on the left hand side and then scroll down and you'll see downloads for "TRIUMPH TR250-TR6" and that will allow you to download diagrams in PDF format. It was a real lifesaver to me insofar as the diagrams I had in the Hayne's Manual were entirely inaccurate.

Thanks, thats just what I needed, this site is a real help.
Can't wait to hear this thing run and it was way back in 1987 when I last drove my 69 TR6 in stock form. This is going to be a real treat.

And don't forget to post some pictures! We like pictures!

And some pictures
In the lot missing the two front wheels and tires, with a shredded top.

The last owner did a nice job with the engine bay, but the blue needs to go!

And two pictures with the new top and the beat up paint buffed out.

Took two weeks since I won my car in the auction, but tonight another TR6 is back running. Seemed like a bit of a fight but I didn't plan to give up, need to see how it go's on the road tomorrow.
What did it take?
Rebuilt carbs
Pulled out the tank and shook it around with a bit of gas and a piece of chain inside, either I didn't have any sparks or it was to rich to explode.
Blow a bunch of stuff out of the fuel lines with carb cleaner and air.
Replaced all of the rubber on the fuel system and most of the pollution stuff too.
The last owner had cooked the wires inside the dist. so I replaced the wires, and thankfully I pulled the advance plates to find the advance weights were all stuck, some PB Blaster and a bunch of working the weights back and forth and they are moving nicely now.
I believe the car had been sitting for 4 years and with what is I believe a very low mileage engine I didn't want to start it without first priming the oil system. I pulled the dist and the other plate to get to the pump drive only to say, I don't have anything to drive the pump. But my son says just notch out a socket, so one notched 9mm later the pump was spinning counter clockwise and the oil gauge was reading 75 PSI. Road trip tomorrow!!
