TR6 Pulling TR6 Engine

A little pointer on removing your engine/tranny. Tilt the whole car down in the front by using really short jack stands in the front, almost to where your sway bar touches the concrete. Will have to remove the front wheels to accomplish this. Then lift the rear with much taller stands. Not to the point that the whole thing wants to slide forward, but it will make the removal process a lot easier. Remember, you will have to maneuver the engine/tranny a bit, that is why you really need an engine hoist with wheels. If you are only using an overhead hoist, you will have to be able to push the engine around a bit in the air to clear everything. Not recommended, but doable. If the overhead hoist is all you have, then be prepared to lift the engine/tranny out, quite high, put your wheels back on and roll the car out of the way. My record for pulling a TR6 engine/tranny is 20 minutes, that is after everything was prepared and the hoist hooked up. Beat that! Have done it six times.

That is one job that I'm glad is behind me. I had two great guys do the work, but it still is stressful getting everything done and back together.

But Hondo, it will be well worth it when it's all done. And get that engine compartment painted while it's empty in there. Good time to do any wiring updates that you want done

A lovely get away weekend in CT.

Pull a TR6 engine and tranny in the AM and strip down a Damson TR6 for paint in the afternoon. Plenty of time to clean up and go to dinner after.

Good tip Bill - thanks!

Paul:

That would be nice if it went as you have stated. With the right prep work, it could go as easy. Well, on second thought, we would need to apply the stripper the evening before for it to work over night and remove the drivetrain that morning working around that stripper. Not sure about that.

BTW I posted the engine/tranny and parts for sale on the classifieds here.
