I have made good progress on the TR250 and have some pics, couldn't get any good body shots in the garage, will try to post tommorrow. My electrical question is this, the ammeter seems to be working right, but I don't see any current draw from the starter, lights, horn etc. all make it dip--do I have it wired wrong or is the starter pre-ammeter in the wiring system, so doesn't show a draw, everything works on the car now except the battery won't charge, have a new external voltage regulator on the way.

The shifter console, sprayed with shiny vynil spray, does not match the crash pads (new), any thoughts on a fix, I don't want to spray everything else with vtnil spray, anyway to dull down the shifter console.

The starter is always "pre-ammeter". It draws a huge amount of current, much more than the ammeter (or the wiring to it) can handle.

Can't help with the console, sorry.
 
Dupli-color makes a flat black vinyl spray. You might try that and then bring it up to the gloss you want with another product (Armorall?)
 
thanks Rhody, I didn't remember seeing that when I bought the other sruff, but wasn't looking for it either, will have to buy some and see if that matches better, the difference now is pretty extreme, the other thought is armoralling the crash pads etc. and seeing how that works.

And thanks Randall, that is what I suspected, but couldn't remember from the old 4A I had.
 
Very nice looking. I see that you have a wiper motor like the TR4A's. I had assumed that the TR250 had the newer round wiper motor like the TR6.

The rectangular wiper motor is listed as original for the 250 in the Piggot original book, the TR250 is not just a tarted up TR4A on with TR6 mechanicals, there is a mix of stuff under there, and a very few things unique to the 250.

The dash was finished by stripping off the old varnish or shellac or whatever it is, a mild cleaning and very light sanding, and then a refinish with clear polyurethane. It got much darker than stock finish I guess from aging.

I did find some flat Duplicolor vinyl spray and re-did the shift console, much better match. Not much more than a few more carpet panels, the nasty fiddly outer door window trims, the bumpers and the top. I will probably pay someone to fit the top, I have done most everything myself, but I am sure the top will look and fit much better if I hire it out.

I would love to own a TR250 but I doubt that I'll find one for what I'd want to spend at this point.

Would love to see a picture of this when you have it back together since I'll have to deal with that at some point as well. When I did my first TR4A, I found a good TR6 console and used it as is, but I'm sure those are harder to come by these days.
