Progress-new thread Monday

I have news I just must share this Sunday morning.

Is 7:55 here and I went out for a five mile ride. Came home and parked in the garage. Slowly got my flashlight and creaper, stood for a bit along side Miss Agatha thennnnn....

Down I went to check for leaks, NONE not a single drop not even the scroll drop from the tranny hole.

What a releif that was, went in side patted the dog and went out and checked again, same result.

Three engine pulls and an oil pan reseal and Miss Agatha is a no driper, for now anyway. Will continue to check everytime I go out for awile just to make sure and cause it is fun.

Oil pressure is super, meets the specs on the high side at all levels.

Clutch is great but engages way low, I am sure that I need a longer rod as I did note that the new throwout bearing was quite a bit thinner than the old, not the bearing surface but the casting was smaller.

Now I need to work on carbs, they are not correct yet but that is just messing and such, I always have difficulitys with them but at least they are on top.

What a nice Thankgiving weekend it has been.

Thanks for all the input, concern, and assistance as I worked through these many difficulities. Without your kindness I would still be at stage one.

Good deal Jack. I glad you dug a little deeper, over the years I've saw more leaks from the back of the pan on recent built motors than from the scroll. Congrats on your sucess.

Well met, Jack. Now DRIVE! If she's not leaking now, she won't leak after the rings bed in fer sure. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Jack, Did you every fill the tranny back up with oil? How did you figure that you had the correct amount?

That's Great News Jack

Now break her in slow and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Now back to work on my water pump is giving me a hard time.

Cheers

Mark

Tranny takes one quart and a bit. Fills to the bottom of the filler hole, if you put excess in it will drain out the filler hole.

I presently have no blow by, wonder how long it takes rings to seat.

I lied I do have blow by.

Great news, Jack. Now get out there and drive that little car!

Jack:

YAY!!!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Good for you! Now you can get on to breaking in, get those rings seated!

YAY FOR NO LEAKS!!!!!!!!

Latest status, now have about 20 miles on Miss Agatha. It looks like all but #3 are seating in. ie #3 plug is black and oily looking, the others turning brown/white.

Pumping a lot of pressure it seems right out that rear seal.

Soon as I get a day without rain will take a few quarts of oil and put a few hundred miles on her useing the info in the question thread. Stoping every 15 min or so and checking and letting things cool down to outside temp.

Boy is my oil pressure great.

Think I will check my valve adjustments in the morning while engine is cold. Especialy #3.

I wonder how good the 948 ventelation system is for the crank case. Tappet chest has a vent and so does the valve cover, that takes care of the upper end but what about the sump? Seems like the only place excess pressure can get out is the scroll seal.

Hi Jack, that is good you have found a source for that crank case pressure. However, there must be a positive crrank case vetilation system or it ain't gonna play. I would ask Hap how it is done on that engine.--Fwiw---Keoke

yep, one pipe to the ground from the tappet chest and one from the valve cover to the front carb. No valves or such just open lines.

Guess I really need to try to bleed my clutch slave just to make sure it has no air.
