Priority Mail

Called busy work.

I mailed a first class envelope on 5/10 from PA to NY (metro area) and as of today (5/19) it has not arrived.

I recently sent a package to England and the USPS got it there in 10 days. Twenty days suggests that it is lost.

As a Elevator repairman for 40 years. Office buildings was the norm. weekly and monthly service I would find mail dropped into the elevator pits. Sometimes just a few and at one stop what would be a whole tray at a State office building. So what it takes to get it out; security, a witness, and who it is addressed to as in office. Now the gap between the elevator and building floor is not greater than 1 1/4 inch. This makes the mail late by as much as 30 days, or what could by a late payment in some cases.
I had a building in San Francisco that the night cleaning crew would sweep floors into the pits. some times a 30 gal trash can full ( 20 story bldg. ).
I had herd about another Elevator man that did this. While cleaning the pit with the day crew to haul away the trash he dropped a $20.00 bill out of his pocket. He then says look a another 20 bucks today it happens all the time. So every now and again he would drop a buck or two pit were clean all the time after that. NOTE some elevator pits have acc. doors that the building have keys for.
As for your tube GOOD LUCK maybe E-Bay will give you your money back

Just had a flashback to being at my in-laws. I borrowed my father in law's key ring to get back in the building - got to their floor, keys in my hand and I remember very distinctly looking at the crack between door and floor and wondering if anyone every dropped their keys down there.

Yup

and of course it wasn't just apartment keys but car keys plus work keys. :rolleyes2:

We posted 3 birthday cards last June all to the same address just different Grand kids. 2 arriver in the normal delivery time and one went missing. The missing card turned up at our address a few days ago with a stamp saying "Insufficient or Non existent address" and the stamp was dated August 2 2020. So where had the letter been between August 2020 and May 2021?
When I went into the post office he said it had been overseas as that is not one of their stamps and I pointed out that the date was not in the US format. When he looked at the label with the postage on it he said it has the correct post code so it should have got there. He was baffled as to how it got out of the country.

I had one that came back after about month, instead of going to the phone company offices downtown here in SW Ohio, it had gone to Oklahoma, then out west before coming back stamped with the "address does not exist" message. It had all the correct information since it was a printed envelope so I was at a loss too understanding how no one noticed the state was Ohio with a 45*** zip code.

Just goes to say, computers can't always read either.

We got a Christmas Card from our friends in Florida - on April 1 - I emailed him and he thought we were joking. (April 1 was also the beginning of Easter!)

In terms of computers reading - Here in Canadia most banks no longer require envelopes for deposits at banking machines - you just insert your cheques/ cash and it 'counts' it for you. Every experience we have had is 100% accuracy. We have a friend who works at a bank doing software development and he remarked that part of the reason for the accuracy is that recognition software is so much better. But the other reason is that it is easier because fewer and fewer people use cheques and/or bank in person - so the whole task is easier.

I'm a dinosaur that still every couple weeks goes to my bank and withdraws some cash, and I do pay bills with checks. It's mostly to stay away from questionably secure online processes. I may change if the day comes where we stop seeing stories about businesses being hacked and information stolen..

We pay by mailed check to most all bills or a few we have bank direct withdraw like car and home. We had a bill marked late so it had to be USPS right, cleaning the car I found one had dropped between the seats. SORRY USPS .Are problem is when we get to another boxes mail. Could that happen to mine and they are gone for a week or two. Are City bill goes to a drop box at City Hall no USPS. The phones today are a main frame in your hand. Just saying

We always paid all of our bills by check UNTIL... The post office lost a payment for car insurance. A big pain...Now 90 percent online.
It is so much easier, I now see way everyone does it.

Eventually I assume I'll have to transition to electronic payments, from the business being paid standpoint it has to be a cost cutter. Just being in tT business I may pay more attention to the data lost stories. But, all that is what makes me a dinosaur to most folks. Let's just hope I don't require an asteroid strike someday....

Our mail here goes to Greensboro,NC for processing.
If you mail a letter to go across the street,it goes to Greensboro
& back.
One month,I got a VISA bill with a late fee, although I mail it
something like two weeks before the due date. Now I go into our
local credit union,& pay in person. So far I've been able to pay it off
every month.

USPS person came to my door today with an Amazon package. This was due yesterday prime all my information was correct but USPS added my house number to box well not my number different and took it there wrong doorstep. box was retuned to USPS as a mistake. USPS drove it right out with big sorry. Not meds not car parts but still just read the label just saying

The only checks I write are for the gardener and AH Club events. Everything else is online. Did have one years ago where the home mortgage was automatically withdrawn from the bank account by the lender. One December I got a late fee on the invoice. I called and said "You're the ones who withdraw the funds, not me. How do you figure a late fee?" Got an apology that Thanksgiving had messed up their computer.
