Portable Hardtop Rack - Should it stay or should it go

I have a hardtop for my 100/6 and looking for a storage rack like you have, both the metal and the portable one. Did you make both? Would you be willing to share the parts list for the portable one. Thanks form Arizona
 
I also have a factory hardtop for my Longbridge BN4 and I would like to see a write up with the details for making the portable storage rack. What is currently available?

My Hard Top stay in garage on a wood bench ,that I have build some time ago, with two pieces of plywood-
Now after your exploit-I have decided to put it on the fire, (without regret) next winter,
and build a copy of your--

Gentlemen,

Sorry for the delayed response - good intentions, but life got in the way. I elected to use 1-1/4" Furniture Grade Schedule 40 PVC. I did this for two reasons; 1) there seemed to be more fittings readily available, 2) it just looks a lot better. I bought all the material on-line from Home Depot. Below is the list of material I bought , as I previously stated the material was 1-1/4" PVC

4 - 60" lengths
2 - 90 degree elbows (sold in packs of 4)
6 - Flat Caps (sold in in packs of 10)
4 - Four way Tees

My cut list is as follows

2 - 32" lengths - Uprights
3 - 26 -1/2" lengths - Cross Members
2 - 15-1/2" lengths - Cross Members
2 - 3-1/2" lengths - Pegs
4 - 2" lengths - Legs

When the job was completed my three year old grandson said, "Nice Rack" ;) Car guy in training

that is great!!! thanks for sharing, now I just have to get the hardtop finally restored to have it look good with the BN4 at its side.:driving:
 
That is very cool! I think I may make one for my Spitfire hard top! Have you considered adding some foam padding to the places that will contact the top?

Thanks for the suggestion, the deed is done. Amazing how little of the surface area comes in contact with the rack. Just a bit of the metal trim at the bottom of the rear window and the very top of the hardtop, yet it sets securely in the rack.

With respect to the metal rack, it came with the hardtop when I bought it. This is a pretty generic rack and you should be able to find them on ebay for about $100. If you look up item # 161834855344 on ebay you will see one similar to the one I have.
