Anyone who's ever used POR-15 on metal with rust holes about the size of a dime? Can I use a fiberglass patch on the rust holes and then cover with por-15? Will the two interact together? Workin on a "driver" the PO left under a tarp for ten years in Ohio Valley humidity. PO used a sponge-like carpet backing and the floor boards rusted from the inside. Outside, they're rust free. Whenever I've stored a car for long periods, I always bought several cans of furniture polish, sprayed the ubderside of the car, removed the carpet and sprayed the floor boards. Really worked well to prevent rust and had a lemon-y smell.
 
That is what the POR-15 trunk kit consists of. I've been told it results in a hard durable finish. Probably want to make sure that there are not seat belt fitting or similar right next to the patch.

POR will be fine with fiberglass. POR also sells their own brand of fiberglass mat, it's point-bonded, not woven. It's a good choice for low profile patches and it won't have the tell-tale woven appearance of common fiberglass.

POR's patch compound (at least what I tried) is an epoxy putty. It is rock-hard when cured. It's also a good choice for patching holes but it won't be low-profile when done.
 
Ahh shucks, this is trunk right? Wire brush to bare metal, fiberglass, and paint with rustolum and cover with trunk carpet. It will last for ever.
