POR-15 alternative

Flexing probably is opening up cracks in the Rust Encapsulator. It's a good product but I doubt it handles the flexing well. If you try POR or Rust Bullet you shouldn't have that kind of problem. However, I would think that for POR to do a good job on leaf springs you would need to disassemble them, paint the individual parts, and reassemble the leaves with a layer of something (and grease) between them. Otherwise you certainly would scrub off the coating no matter what the POR literature says.

Rooster: 1st of all, I did not mean to steal your thread. Rust
is a problem for all types of suspensions. If something works for me
and my TR6 or my boat- it should work for any Triumph, anywhere in the
world. I live in a salty environment.

Hey don't worry about it. I'm in a somewhat salty environment too, in Richmond BC, right on the West coast, about 5 minutes from the water. I had a rebuilt brake master cylinder go all rusty in a matter of weeks here, which had previously survived several years inland without problems.

Seems like every one has a favourite product. I'll check out that eastmans VS por comparision.

Cheers

Ahhh, life in the high desert... They don't even use salt here. Then again, nothing rusts like a Triumph! I just did my floor of my MK I Spit with this stuff, https://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp Used some fiberglass matting {pinholes} with it. It turned out great. My paint shop guys have nothing but praise for the stuff. It's cheaper than POR! Nice solid finish. Give me a few years and I'll give you an honest opinion...

Rust Encapsulator used to be called Corroless.

Hmmm, I assume you never owned a Fiat...or a Belgian-assembled mid-1970s Volvo or Saab.

Ahahaha! I have a Fiat 128 sitting here with the edges of the trunk lid rusting. You may be right. It's been off the road since '88. Nasty rusting pigs, almost as bad a a Datsun, if not worse! Wanna buy it? I'm heading out east in about 6 weeks... I found a Herald in Nebraska for $150.00!
