pistons wrong way round

Gee thanks Roger ! The bad advice I saw was you telling him to put the old rings back in after he switched the 2 pistons around. We all want him to switch them. I'm not a piston engineer but know that a V-8 289 ford with it's short stroke has much more thrust pressure than a long stroke inline 6 Healey engine. We come here to offer free advice whether they are doing a $200 build or a $15,000 build. We don't know it all and don't cut on peoples mistakes. Rings do rotate on the piston , but I didn't say a word to Brinkerhof. I came here to offer 45 years of engine service and make friends ! :thankyousign:

Actually, Superwrench, it wasn't you I was getting at, and I'm sorry you took it so. But V, slant, or whatever, you're right, it's the stroke and conrod length that count and an I4 Kent block also has a bunch of side thrust.

I'm not going to argue about the rings, like I said, it's a budget thing and I've put pistons back in bores with old rings when I was stuck for time and/or cash without great detriment. YMMV.

What I don't like is the advice to leave it alone. It seems we don't all want him to switch them.

Sorry again.
