Several months ago I purchased Ralph Salomon's Ginetta G4 and Michael Clifford brought it from New York to PIRC where I took delivery of it on Thursday. After putting numbers on it and getting the belts set up, etc. I took it out for the first time during yesterday afternoon's test session. I bedded in the brakes and did a few laps to get the feel of the car, then came in to the paddock when the (annular) clutch began to make strange and unpleasant noises. Whatever is wrong will require pulling the engine and that was not going to happen at the track, so back to the shop it goes....

As they say, man proposes and god disposes--and nowhere is this truer than with racing. Some weekends all we do is check the oil, water, wheels and tires, put gas in the tank and have a great time. Other times it turns out like this and I decided long ago that if I cannot live with this kind of disappointment I should not be racing. And as I always try to keep in mind, having a broken race car is what I call a fancy problem.

So much for this weekend, and I am headed back to MD today to lick my wounds and load up the Elva MK IV to return to Pittsburgh next week for the races at Shenley. Hopefully that will go better.

Hope everyone has a great time at PIRC and I will see a lot of you soon.

Missed you at dinner tonight, Michael.

I have to say, even standing still, that Ginetta is one pretty car!

Thankfully most drivers did well on-track so my assignment on the Driver's Committee was not too bad.

You are correct: if you can't handle some disappointment, forget about racing sports cars. Sometime you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.

Look forward to seeing you at Shenley.

After watching those scenes the track layout is now in my mind. Better than any diagram could ever be.

Michael! Do we get some pix of the "new" Ginetta?!? PLEASE?

These are all that I have:

An overused term, but gotta say it: "SEXY!"

Hope the clutch issue can be resolved in a timely manner. I'd like to "see" what you find when you open it up, too.

...just curiosity on my part.
