Can you post some pics? I am not visualizing this at all
Which part, removing the whole baffle, or the center baffle plug?
Whole baffle assembly:
See the bolt and the end of the muffler through the side? That's holding the whole baffle assembly in the muffler. Take that out and the whole center should come out. It might require some persuation. Looking at it, it seems a bit too clean to be factory ( the bolt), so the PO might have already gutted it and just put the cap back on.
Take out the bolt, stick a broom stick in it. Cock it some to bind in the hole and see if it'll come out (pull). Or, remove bolt and crank the car and rev. It might work it's way out. It might just come right out if you grab it with your fingers and pull.
Center tube baffle plug:
The center baffle plug is in the exhast tube ( where the exahast come out.) It's about half way down. There are two sets of small holes in the tube on either side of this baffle plug. It's just like a freeze plug stuck in the middle of the tube. Exhast goes into the muffler, hits the center baffle and is forced to go through the first set of small holes in the tube into the main body of the muffler. Once in there, it's only way out is though the other set of hole in the tube on the other side of the center baffle. The gases go through these small hole back into the exit tube and then out the muffler through the tube in the center. You can see these holes with a flash light if you look in the end of the muffler.(unless PO gutted it completly and sawed off the end and reinstalled as a cap.)
Whole assembly:
If you enlarge these small hole ( on both sides), the gasses will flow better.
Center tube baffle plug:
If you knock out the center baffle, it's a straight shot down the tube and out the muffler. (just like a glass pack.) It's not near as loud as you would think.)
If you do both, it's a straght shot and quiter than just knocking out the plug.
The good thing is it looks like you can pull the whole baffle out. Mine you can't, you have to cut it out or just knock the center baffle plug.
Does this help?
