Awhile back some mentioned the dangers of googling "midget tranny" I tried. :wall: Don't! :nonono:

Here is my "before" ugly and large!

It's a Harley take off as per other conversations. Got a great deal (not free but still...) what a difference. It isn't really louder at all but just has a nice roarty rumble - especially as you wind it up. Looks good too!

JP looks good. Nice rumble not the sound like a large fart when you press the skinny pedal.

Two thumbs up Jp

I had a chance to see it yesterday and have a listen as he blasted away from my house.

Sound like a small bore hog

Cheers

Punch it, it's too restrictive that way. Look inside and the size and number of hole and you will be shocked. It was designed to handle only 690cc's. You wouldn't put your Midget muffler on a 3.0 V6, would ya????

Punch the baffle, it won't be much louder if any at all and the car will run ~SO~ much better. I was shocked how quite mine was once I did it. I have 7.5 motor with the timing set around 12-14 deg.

Punch it. You'll be glad you did. It's reverisble if you want to put it back in, you just have to mark the stick to it's location before you knock it out. It's just like a freeze plug. The idea is to drive it out, not make a hole in it. TRUST ME !!!!!

Your's is different than mine. Looks like your main baffle will unbolt. Is that correct? If so, you can pull it and drill holes all the way to both ends on both sides of the center baffle and make it flow better. This will also quieten it up more if you punch the baffle.

Can you post some pics? I am not visualizing this at all

Awe man! That looks so good, now I have to go get one. Shoot!

Which part, removing the whole baffle, or the center baffle plug?

Whole baffle assembly:

See the bolt and the end of the muffler through the side? That's holding the whole baffle assembly in the muffler. Take that out and the whole center should come out. It might require some persuation. Looking at it, it seems a bit too clean to be factory ( the bolt), so the PO might have already gutted it and just put the cap back on.

Take out the bolt, stick a broom stick in it. Cock it some to bind in the hole and see if it'll come out (pull). Or, remove bolt and crank the car and rev. It might work it's way out. It might just come right out if you grab it with your fingers and pull.

Center tube baffle plug:

The center baffle plug is in the exhast tube ( where the exahast come out.) It's about half way down. There are two sets of small holes in the tube on either side of this baffle plug. It's just like a freeze plug stuck in the middle of the tube. Exhast goes into the muffler, hits the center baffle and is forced to go through the first set of small holes in the tube into the main body of the muffler. Once in there, it's only way out is though the other set of hole in the tube on the other side of the center baffle. The gases go through these small hole back into the exit tube and then out the muffler through the tube in the center. You can see these holes with a flash light if you look in the end of the muffler.(unless PO gutted it completly and sawed off the end and reinstalled as a cap.)

Whole assembly:
If you enlarge these small hole ( on both sides), the gasses will flow better.

Center tube baffle plug:
If you knock out the center baffle, it's a straight shot down the tube and out the muffler. (just like a glass pack.) It's not near as loud as you would think.)

If you do both, it's a straght shot and quiter than just knocking out the plug.

The good thing is it looks like you can pull the whole baffle out. Mine you can't, you have to cut it out or just knock the center baffle plug.

Does this help?

sort of. I have 2 (had to buy a pair) so, on the bench, I think I can see what you are talking about. Unfortunately I will have to get a special screwdriver to take off the bolts - the head is like a torx with a round centre. On the plus side, I think these are brand new take offs, so, it should come apart easily. Oh, and there is also a mesh covering the hole at the intake end. so, even with the centre remove, it won't be a true flow through.

Take a pic of that. WE'll get that out too!

On the tamper resistant torqx, I use a small flathead screwdriver and tap it in between the center post and into two of the star points. Works o.k if it's not too tight.

Or, take the nut off, then gently grab the threaded end w/ needle nose and start backing it out till you can get vise grips on it.
