Pilot Shaft Bushing Removal

I know there has to be a bunch of info on how to remove the crank pilot shaft bushing in a tractor engine but I can't seem to find any info using the search system. Can anyone give me some direction?

Thanks, Tinkerman

Of course, the flywheel is off. With that, it should just slide out. Since you'll be replacing the bushing anyway, I don't imagine it would hurt to gently pry it from the inside, but, if I remember correctly, there is another way.

I was told to try putting wooden dowel in the hole, about same size, and wiggling it, then, if that didn't work, to put a gob of grease into the hole, then whack the dowell gently into the hole, popping the bushing back out from the pressure created by the grease seal--grease may squirt into your face.

You can also put a 5/8" tap in the hole and thread it into the bushing. When it bottoms out, it will push the bearing out.

Thanks Peter, thats the info I needed!

Auto Zone will loan you a tool that will remove them. You leave a hefty deposit and get it back when you return the tool.
