Picture of my BJ8

Well Rob, it was worth the wait. Very nice looking Healey. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

A second picture. The size of the file was exceeding the limit of the upload file. To reduce the size, the format was changed to PDF.

WOW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif that is one nice Healey. And such a very perfect color I might add... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I like the driveing lights. Make it look so purposefull.

I'm embarrassed that it took so many attempts to post the pictures. I had the resolution set on the camera too high. My computer science professor colleague was able to "shrink" the photos to 179,000 bytes. I didn't have a clue. I figured that I just wasn't holding my mouth right. I'm only an economists professor--cameras and computers are just too technical for me. I understand stone age technical (like my BJ8).

P.S. Really got a chuckle out of "Is it a white car in a snowstorm?" That made me more determined to post a picture or two. Anyway, the problem is now solved.

The car is beautiful. Is the paint original??? If so, the car is incredibly well maintained. How many miles does it have?

Saw a couple that did not look any better go for 80K or so on the TLC auction on TV last evening.

Dave,

The original color was Healey Blue. I had a small amount of body work done and reshot 15 years or so ago. The weather is kind to LBCs down here, and so it has held up well. I drive it a couple of thousand miles each year. It has 87,500+ on the clock, which I believe to be near correct. I knew the previous owner, thus the history of the car. Thanks for the kind comment.

Rob

Rob,

Looks much better now that the snow has melted! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Must be some nice driving in Tennessee. Do you ever get out to the Smokies?

Cheers,
John (ex Virginia boy)

Hijack ahead.
Hi John, what part of Virginia? I spent my first 22 years of life in Alexandria, just a couple of miles from George Washington’s house.

Sure, once or twice a year--usually around Christmas time and late summer. However, not in the Healey. Go up there in my ancient(1987) XJ6. She's not long for the bone yard.

Hi Greg,
Small world! Lived in the Springfield/Fairfax area for Junior and Senior High School (J.W. Robinson). Have relatives living in the Rappahannock area and Waynesboro. Hiked the Appalachian trail through the Blue Ridge Parkway into the Smokies.

So Ron (steering the thread back on track) .. I know firsthand that the Smokies are quite scenic and watch out for the bears! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My bro-in-law lives in Tenn and In-laws just over the border in Al. I think it would be worth moving there just for the way the weather treats the car!!!

How much prep did they do for a re-spray? What did you take off, or mask, if you don't mind me asking. My BJ8 has 56k original miles and I'm the second owner, everything on mine, looks great, except the paint shows it's age, so I'm anxious to do something.

Everthing was taken off and stripped to bare metal. Very little body work was needed. A bodyman working for GM, but a fan of LBCs did the work, and I believe he did it right. We agreed upon a price and a time frame (1 year). It wound up slightly over the set price, but gained on the completion date(finished it in 9 months). The bodyman did it all. Paint and I don't mix well. Same goes for cameras and computers.

WOW! I talked to a reputable shop near my home. They do LBC body work, american classics and some custom work. They showed me a 120 Jag they're working on. They wanted the entire winter plus some more if they were busy. They estimated $12k - $15k for removing stuff, separating the fenders, but not removing them, and stripping to bare metal. They suggested a single stage (no clear coat) urethane (?), which they had on the Jag. It looked pretty nice.

I'm not up for spending that much right now, but at some point in the future, it's gonna have to be done.

Thanks,

Nice car Greg, thanks for sharing. I will have to say you missed your driveway when you pulled in.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just kidding, I know you parked it under the tree on purpose.

Hey, I live in the deep South--driveways are for barbeque grills. Cars are parked under trees, which also double as engine hoists. Nah... she's in the garage when not Healeying about.

Yes and if you happen to becoming from TH's House at 1:00 AM in the morning you can actually see where you are going in that pitch black environment.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That is why the driving lights are on the car--not for looks, but for function. Twisting, winding country roads at 90 mph are inky-black at night. I almost bought the farm more than once when a herd of deers were up ahead. Those old Lucas lamps really throw off a flame of light into the woods and give me time to brake. Some of you city boys probably never have seen what a deer can do to a car. Pigs are the worst--like running into a greasy boulder (really).
