TR6 Picked up my TR6

I picked up my new-to-me 1971 TR6 on Thursday night. It was cold enough that the top was too stiff to get up so it was a brisk hour and a half drive home - smiling all the way. The car looks pretty good from 20 feet but up close you can see it needs some work. But I was looking for a project.

The paint isn't great and it needs a new interior- seats, carpets, panels, the whole bit. But it seems to run pretty well and doesn't appear to be too rusty. The outer sills have been replaced although not done too well so they'll need to be done over. There is rust under the battery and the dog-leg on the right rear fender looks suspicious so I'm expecting it will need some rust repair. I've had rustier British cars before so I think I can deal with it.

I've been lurking here a while and this seems a really nice place. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and maybe I can answer a few, too.

Bryan

Now let's see if I can figure out how to post a pic.

Nice looking TR; I have been a member for a number of years and have always found the LBC community to be the best. Quite simply, the best forum on the web!

Hey Bryan,

Nice looking TR6 and welcome to the Forum. Is that a stripe down the drivers side of the hood, or just a shadow?

Any pics of engine or interior?

Come back and visit us often. Someone is always here to help if you need it.

Yes, that's a black stripe down the hood and trunk. Probably not my first choice of paint schemes but it's a project and that will be dealt with in time. I don't have a lot of other pictures now - perhaps tomorrow I'll get a few more.

Bryan,
It certainly looks very nice from here! It is a great feeling getting hold of a new project, especially if your expectations are realistic. Good luck with the car and keep us up to date with progress.

Great looking TR Bryan,

Besy wishes for some happy driving and
may your jack stand time be limited.

If you need any help with the rear suspension,
I know a little bit from a non-mechanic, practical
standpoint.

Post some photos of inside, outside.

Have fun with it today Bryan. The weather is supposed to be great today for top down driving in this part of the world.

I have the dealer installed side stripes on my car. At first I didn't really care for them. Now, they have grown on me and maybe your stripe will grow on you.

Wish the paint on my 4 looked that good when I got it. So what's the plan; run it for the summer and pick the first project for next winter?

Well, I wish the paint looked that good up close. The color is really closer to the early Miata blue than French Blue but it's not bad. Yes, the plan is to do some driving this summer with a few small projects along the way - like inertia reel seat belts. Then I'll get serious this fall. The car is in reasonable shape and I could probably just drive it for a long time as it is. But I like doing this sort of stuff and wanted to get into a little more of a project. Here are a couple of other photos. Thanks to all for the kind words.
