Pic of that cardboard thing...

More motivation. Nice.

That's one *clean* stock emissions equipped engine compartment!

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're talking about the blue engine above - while very nicely done - there's nothing "stock" about it! Shall I count the ways - or just point out the major abnormalies?

yea...it just makes me want to tear into my engine compartment and start ripping stuff out to paint it...then I sits down, have a beer, and maybe take a nap until the urge passes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not "stock" but it presents itself well. Good clean example.

Agree, Doc - but I'm not going to run out & redo all my cars....its the car of a guy who only has 1 car & is turning it into his personalitl...nicely done

But, the subject of this thread - those dirty cardboard mud guards - doesn't have to be changed from stock unless a person just wants to dress up his car...they'll last 30 years & are cheap to replace with another cardboard one!

I made one out of aluminum sheet. Why? My car was missing one...the aluminum looks nice with the alloy valve cover...and it was as cheap (or cheaper) than buying a plastic one from Moss...

Hi Tony, interesting comment, apart from the blue (have taken a lot of ribbing from a couple of friends over that) I thought I tried to keep it close to stock. Sure the hose clamps are not original wire type and I goofed on the placement of the valve cover sticker, I did keep all the emmision system intact. The mud/splash guard yes made from alli but if it's succesfull then I will consider spending the $40Can plus shipping plus duty taxes etc about $55 to my door. I would be very interested to hear other other mistakes I have made. Look forward to your feedback. It is not a show car or a tq, but is used for driving and enjoying
Cheers Ric

Since you mention the blue... Put me down as another poke inna ribs. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Point well taken on the choice of engine paint (was sure it said For D MG on the rattle can) Was in a hurry to get the lump back in, not much in the way of choices locally, and did not want to wait 3weeks for Moss to supply the correct Blue. Well deserved rib poke taken.
Cheers Ric

I think it looks good, and stands out in the black engine bay. If you'da paited it black, everything would blend together, and makes seeing details dificult. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ric - if you like it, you've not made any mistakes...& you haven't seen my project that has every body panel modified....I was just commenting to somebody else that it wasn't original but belied the owner's personality.

Yup. We all put our "stamp" on these cars in our own ways. It's actually fun to see how different folk approach/solve various LBC problems and projects.

It's been said here before: there are enough MGB's "out there." We're not "cobbing" Ferrari's! Rather making driveable, reliable (sorta /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) examples of mass produced English lumps FOR FUN!

And nothing we do to an MGB is wrong until we try to sell it - that's when we find out if we've improved or damaged its value

To quote a friend in "the trade": "Ultimately, the value of any used car is simply the price that the buyer and seller agree on."

I like it, looks clean and business like.

so... besides paint (both engine and engine compartment), the mud guard, and the mentioned decal faux paux, what's not stock about this engine compartment?

Actually, I think the whole car is black.

How old is your monitor, Kenny?!?!

*shrug* I can't see anything outside of the engine compartment in the pic... what color is the outside of the car?

Hi Rob. the B is Black, outside, inside and top. Was a pic of on an earlier post.
When I got it everything under the hood was black, and I mean everything, wiring, fluid reservoirs, hoses clamps, carb, manifold engine. Whoever did the earlier paintjob just sprayed it all. When I got the engine block and head back from deep cleaning, I found lots traces of what looked like Leyland light blue paint, I have checked the eng# and casting dates they all indicate the original engine. I doubt that I would have painted it black anyway for the same reasons Kenny gave.
Cheers Ric
