Camera tilt due to high G loads. Just joking.

I get the impression that the roads are bigger in the USA than they are here in Scotland!

Hey Nick,

I was wondering that myself after seeing pictures of the roads you guys were driving on. Then again here's a small road in NY where my Dad lives. Since been paved about two years ago to two lanes. I miss that road you use to have to blow the horn around every bend.

This is average back road in Connecticut with the twistys though below.
Note how all is paved. Very few dirt or gravel roads left.

Yes they are, our typical 'back roads' are more like "A" roads in the UK. Roads like UK "B" roads are usually only seen on driveways over here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My last trip visiting friends that live near Coventry I walked along some rather nice "B" roads while making a trip to the local pub. Really wished I had a car at my disposal during that trip. Here is the road...

And in case any one was wondering, the paved area is barely 10-12 feet wide. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

You have me thinking now. There are two main motorways in Scotland. Both have two lanes going in either direction. There is a section near Glasgow with three lanes either way. The main A1 from Edinburgh to London still has some sections that are only one lane in each direction and much of the Great North Road (A9) to Inverness from Edinburgh is the same. My journey to Ireland three weeks ago was very slow because of the heavy rain and not being able to see to pass lorries on the road. I remember the amazing wide, quiet roads in the USA ten years ago when I visited. It was so relaxing driving there and I wouldn't think twice about a trip of 500 miles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Nick,

Better get some gasoline your running low. I thought you all drove right hand driven cars over there.

This mornings cold ride down town Beacon Falls. Don't blink!

Nope! Sunny and in the high 50's low 60's. REALLY windy though. Mountains are getting the white stuff pretty heavily. Forecast is for us to get some tonight. Just can't count on it until its actually coming down locally. We'll see if I have to scrape the snow off the TR8 in the morning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Sorry Harry, but I re-imported it from the USA a few years ago. We have been depriving you of quite a number of TR3s over the years as most of the British ones have rusted away. I didn't want to change it to RHD as the car is quite original.
The engine is switched off for that picture and I had pulled over as I had just embarrassed myself a few minutes earlier when I stopped to take a picture and then discovered a motorist waiting patiently behind me!
You're right, though. I should fill up with petrol as the price has dropped to $7.35 a gallon recently! - how much is it over there?

The national average is somewhere just over $2.00/gallon now I believe. Colorado is still on the high side at $2.35/gallon for regular unleaded (85 Octane), add $.10 per level of octane increase.

Yes, we still have cheap gas. We'll see what happens after November 7th though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

Shawn,

You got it exactly! I just paid $2.45/gallon yesterday here in CT for 93 octane. This is recently down from about $3.25 with my stop and shop 15 cent off gas coupon. Lately I never know what the price is going to be.

Nick,

Never thought of deportation of an americanized car did you get the proper papers from immigration? And to think all these years I thought the rust on my 3 was caused by all the Atlantic Ocean salt spray on the boat ride over. Guess that was wrong! Anyway to get back on topic this was the beginning pic of downtown I should have posted first and the other was at the end of town about 200 yards up the road. Thats why I said don't blink. High of 60 today dropping quickly at noon. Think I had some frost growing on my nose this morning.

Just thought I would share this picture with you that I took on the Circuit of Ireland rally a few years ago. More sheep again I am afraid!

This forum is great. It gave me a great excuse to take the TR out for a spin just now. It is an unusually dry beautiful sunny autumn day here in Scotland. The car was running like a dream. Thank you all for encouraging me to go for a drive (as if I needed an excuse!)

Just for you Bill. This morning at 48 degrees. Went to Wal-de-mart top down wifey made me put the top up for the ride home. With the forty mph gusts with leaves and branches falling from above and the Sun hiding I wasn't gonna argue.

Bill, pretty soon everything will be white and you can make us jealous!

Nick, the photos from Scotland are great makes me feel like I'm there.

That 'hip' shooting works pretty good doesn't it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Keeps you safe too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Getting better at it I guess. Although, I now have about 86 pics in my photo through windshield file. Thanks for the safety tip!
