Photo Thru my Windsheild

[ QUOTE ]
That's some mighty fine drivin' while picture taking there! I have enough trouble just turning the camera on and getting a pic while driving and hopefully not hitting anything on a deserted road.

It's called 'hip shooting'. Photographing without looking through the camera to frame the shot. Consumer digitals are great for this. Do not, and I'll stress it again, do not try to 'frame' the shot while in motion. With a bit of practice you can get quite good at 'hip shooting' and you don't take your eyes off of the road. Looking through a camera while driving, especially if the effective focal length is wider or more telephoto from a 50mm (on a 35mm camera) equivalent can really mess with your head by altering what your brain is used to on depth perception and motion.

When I took my photos through the windshield while moving I would hold the camera at about head hight between the the seats, hold it level and then just start shooting with one hand while driving with the other. Not really any different than tuning the radio by feel. With the digital cameras especially, just delete the bad ones and keep practicing. That's called editing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

my TR6 is original colour magenta. Very popular here in Oz during the mid '70's. My avatar is an advert for TR6's, it's not my car.

NOT DUCT TAPE!

I'll try the bungy cord idea this weekend, but I really like the steady cam. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif
Xmas is coming "Hint Hint"

NOT DUCT TAPE (as noted in my post) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

I just dont want the sticky glue on my roll bar padding... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Kodjana; If you'd like the top of the heap Steadicam unit, I will have a pages long gift exchange list of equal value
I think that Alan Meyers has a photo or film bkgnd who may be able to provide Steadi feedback. Where is he anyhow, haven't seen any of his usually informative posts lately?

Great photo TR674! Was it taken at Guilderton by any chance?

Missed that part /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Stedi cams mounts for Camcorders could be a bit bulky and not really do much good for this situation. Cameras with stabilization built in will make it smoother overall when mounted to a car. Easiest and most secure way to mount the camera to your roll bar would be something like this video camera mount that Pegasus Auto Racing sells. Other auto racing catalogs might have something similar. I can build something like this out of photo clamps and what not but they wouldn't be any less expensive.

Kodanja,

Liked your video so much I enlisted the twelve year old to show me how it all works. That took most of the day yesterday. I wrapped about a three foot length of folded in half paper towel around the camera and similarly apportioned amount around the panic bar on my 3 dash and electrical taped it in place. Paper towel did a good job of protecting all. The video looks great on the camera and when on TV but it seems to go into some skippy mode when downloading to computer and the video doean't match the sound too well either(it's choppy). I'll keep plugging at it today. Think it has something to do with some stupid setting that I can't seem to locate yet.

Oh... and the yellow blob way up ahead was a Lotus that passed me like I was going backwards. I never saw it again.

Here's a shot for Sean at sea level + 5 ft.... just north of Manhattan Beach, on the closest public road to the beach, not Pacific Coast Highway...

Sleipnir
no, it was taken at a coastal suburb north of Perth called Trigg Island. The Island part is because there is a natural limestone outcrop that becomes an island at high tide.

Love those Chipmonks. Hardly ever see them in the US. Must be fun to fly in a bubble canopy.
