Parts questions.

Mine is a 71 Midget. It has a canister type oil filter, which I got no problem with, but when I look up parts it lists a spin on only. I always suspected that the engine was a 69. Anyways, is moss number 950-520 what I need for just a paper element? Also the distributor cap on mine has wires out the side, does this mean its an early model distributor? Will the regular kind and the side kind interchange? I think I should stick with the side kind 163-800. Screw it, I am ordering. I got to get this done. Going insane with this stuff and its breaking me.:madder:

Most Spridgets used the side entry dist cap, MGBs used the top entry, either cap is interchangable. I prefer the screw in side entry because I can buy a set of V8 wires and get 2 complete sets for the price of a 4 banger set.
Make sure you get 7mm wires.

I dunno about the Moss number, but I have two numbers for the paper element.

Wix 51184 (I'm using this one in my 1275)
Carquest 85184 (the old one I took out)

Maybe with these numbers you can find one locally.

Whoa, not clicked the order button yet. still pondering. So, I can make up my own plug wires? never looked at the cap that close. What about the end things that clip onto the plugs???

Locals are advance, autozone, oreilly, that have hours where I can get to them before they close. I usually get to work a 6 and try to get out by 4 or 5 but its a race to get to places that close at 5 like our local car quest or a place called city foreign auto. They would probably have the filter and maybe the other stuff but car quest is high and I don't like dealing with them, but I will if it really gets to be crunch time.

Hehe, 7mm solid core V8 wires in the preaty yellow please with the cast on red plug caps.

Accel #3009 Part of the Mr. Gasket group.

Think they came from Advance Auto.

Those two filter numbers could cross over to something that your favorite store has in stock. I believe the last three digits make up the basic part number and the first two are manufacturer numbers.

Ah. I was wondering about that. I'd like to switch to the top out style and run resistor cables and plugs to reduce AM radio noise.

Something in the back of my head - I can't remember what - is telling me that top cap wires on a Midget block something...

I just took a look. I see two posible points of interference. The right side footwell and that big honkin' vent hose.

Kim, if you haven't ordered your filters yet, I've got 3 cannister-type elements you can have. Two are from Moss (950-520), one is a Napa Gold filter. I'm using spin-on filters now, so don't need these. PM me if you're interested.

I'm pretty sure they're consistent between the engine sizes...

Yeah, that is the ones. You coming to MO? Oh, and I just did order a couple, but if things go well, I will use many of them with regular 3000 mile oil changes, thanks. If not the shipping might be higher than their worth ?

Put my brand new, just like the orginal, big honking vent hose on today. Ed at Just Brits carries them and the heater to flapper hose and the dash vent hoses, all as per orginal equipment. He has em in stock, they come from an English factory.

Yep it clears the side wire dizzy and such. Kinda looks good in there but then I like new clean parts.

Jack - Ed emailed me today...he's sending me all the hoses & an invoice.

Now, I get to do them all over again!

Not coming to MO, but I'd be happy to pop them in the mail to you. They're light, so would be cheap. I'd hate to just chuck them out...
