Parts, Parts, Parts, What to do with Them

After a number ot years of fooling with LBC's, I've accumulated a lot of used and miscellaneous new parts for MG's and Triumph's. I'm not a pack rat and tell my self that the used parts are still servicable and useful. A lot of the new parts were ordered and not used for some reason, and of course I didn't identify which vehicle and or model or what section of the car it goes to. I'm just rambling on here trying to see who else is in this predicament. Does anyone have a system of storage for parts? I look at this as a project which may never get started.

I'm sure Tony uses a system. Then again, he has a business to run with all his parts. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Buckets, boxes, bins & lables. I write down every part I strip off and lable the outside of the box so it is easily identified at a quick glance. I have boxes with running lists and cross outs on them.

Post some pics of the unidentifiables. I'm sure the local panal can let you know what most of them are.
And on moss parts you could type the part # into Moss's website and get an idea of what they are.
Then box up any triumph parts and send them to me. hehehehe

Tony has a system, he piles like items in like piles or like bins. For example all insturments go in one bin. All engines set on the floor in rows. Body pannels are in another pile, etc etc. Oh yea the bins are on shelves and labled.

My biggest problem is space. I'm working out of a 8 X 10 foot wooden lawn shed. With a workbench, tool box, and shelving for chemicals, oil, cleaners, etc. not much room left. Banjo, I'll keep the Triumph parts, thank you, but if I ever get back to my hometown of Bath; I'll sure look you up.

heh. Here it can be a Lotus, Alfa or MGB bit most times. Thirty-seven years of pedalin' these things about has seen me collect literal TONS of bits. Luckily, I can still identify discreet parts for each.

But I pity Horsemits' NEXT husband, tho. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Ok Mike... ~gives dejected puppydog look~
hehehe. I was just jabbin ya anyway.
Yea, if yer ever in Bath, I'm only 45 minutes or so down the road (as you know) Maybe we could hook up at Seneca Lodge or something. C'mon up for the Zippo Vintage Grand Prix in September.

Every few months....I list em all on E-bay. Make a couple of hundred dollars selling what sells, keeping what doesn't and it seems to thin the pile a little. (Of course, I use the money to buy new parts and the cycle begins again)

I ~do~ have a RAS, James...

It's called: "SHED". Last in, first out. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Yep! One building has shelves along exterior walls - on shelves are the large plastic bins you can buy at Lowe's for $5 apiece - bins are marked & used parts are put inside (individual bins for items like mirrors, door items, 2-piece taillights, park lights, etc)...center of building is where I pile everything before it goes in bins. Shelves along back of building hold interior/dash items, vent window assemblies, etc.

Another building has all my engine stuff - shelves along walls hold carbs, starters, alternators, distributors, etc. while engine blocks (disassembles & assembled) are lined along one wall & transmissions are lined along another wall.

Another shed has all my body parts stacked by car type (MGB, Midget, MG1100, etc) & separate suspension items shelved. Full suspensions - front & rear - are stacked in center of shed. Another set of shelves for brake items & heater assemblies.

Yet anther shed is stacked with wheels of all types.

I keep an old MGB bodyshell around just for storing door glass in its trunk & windshields/hatch glass in the empty interior cavity.

...& I'm always behind in organizing my parts! To me it always looks disorganized.

New parts are on shelves in main garage - one set of shelves for Moss, another for Victoria....I try to write on the packaging what car the items are for.
