When my 73 was new, I would wax, and wax, buff, and wax, and wax to try and see my reflection. It was a labor of love, but a real pain in the behind. If the modern urethane paints were available in the seventies, you can bet your sweet bippy they would have used the base and clear coat method or at the least just urethane.
That said, I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder, but I have painted with enamels and want nothing more to do with them.
