Paint color for Penny?

I'm not sure how much changing to a non-original color would effect future resale values, but if you were building a concours car, I would think it would have some effect.

I'm not worried about resale value, and Penny certainly won't be a concours car (1275, disc brakes, 5-speed). I do tend to like things to be more original where I can, though, so I admit that I will likely stick with the OEW/Red pairing as she came from the factory.

That is such a good look, and I have a factory hardtop. That color combo is really what made me think about the color change.

There was a blue used on The Big Healey 100S. Dark/Rich color - no metallic. I prefer dark colors.

I looked for some pictures on the web, but the color doesn't photograph well.

The color is "Lobelia Blue" You can get an idea of what it would look like on a bugeye from the bottom half of the "Baby S"

Gotta say that if you go with OEW...have the painter throw in just a little more "old". That's what I did with my Midget and I get compliment after compliment on the color. Leans a bit toward's a beige.

In that picture it doesn't look as dark as it truly is. The reflection of the grey gravel messes it up. In other pictures it will look almost black. Quite frustrating because it is a lovely color when seen in person.

Much better Rick. Thanks

there are actually a bunch of OEW's - including pepper white - a Mini colour. Mine actually came from a '98 MGF

My Midget was OEW but had sat in a shed for over 30 years "aging". i picked the most aged spot on the fender and had the body shop scan it. They got it just right.

I really like the light blues. Iris and Speedwell were a bit too light blue. I used a custom light blue which is noticeably
darker than the factory light blues. I still call it Speedwell blue. This pic is pretty color correct and was taken the day
I took her home from the paint and body shop.

I do like the color of your car, David. My Lotus will be very close to that with a factory color...Medici Blue...maybe just a tad more blue.

Kurt.

My thoughts were to not paint on stripes and take my time about the stripe thing. I have kicked around
several styles in a vinyl stripes. Currently leaning toward about a 10 inch center stripe with out line
in pin stripes.
Since the car stays garaged under cover the next owner can just remove the stripe if they so desire.
Hopefully the stripes would not leave color variance when removed.
or heck...I my want to change the stripe for some reason. Either way there is a good paint job underneath.
Keeps the options open so to speak.
just my .02
I bet the anticipation for Drew is off the charts. I can't wait to see where this ends.
Of course I will follow along with interest.

That is my Speedwell Monza bonnet.

I used Interlux Brightside for both the hardtop and the car. In California single stage paint is difficult to obtain and use at home. However over-the-counter boat paint can be purchased easliy. They are off the self colors. I hope to have some time to get some pictures this week during the almond bloom to give everyone hope winter will end soon:devilgrin:

As said, this is my favorite combination for a BE.....even better than my 60Frog OEW and red/white piping interior.
