They come as a butt joint for welding. I took mine to a Midas shop and had them open one end up on both. Took a couple of trips on one of them

The step clamps are from Summit
 
when you buy flex pipes, it's best to find ones that are as smooth as possible on the inside. You can get sleeved ones if there is not too much movement.

Totally agree with Rob. I need the non smooth ones as there is about a 1" offset in the pipes.
 
Those exhaust clamps look expensive. For years I have been using the stainless steel sleeve clamps for plumbing applications. Throw away the rubber sleeve and just use the stainless. They are called mission clamps and they work great if the pipes slide together far enough. I use them on the all of my cars instead of regular exhaust clamps. Makes getting things apart real easy and they only cost about $5 each.
