GT6 Overheating after fitting air filters

Hi there,

Need some help. I fitted some K+N filters to the GT6, and then I ran the engine for a while idling, and noticed the temp gauge right up there at max. Nothing else evidently wrong with the car to my knowledge. Is this connected do you think? And if any of you have any experience of this I'd appreciate the help.

It didn't suffer from overheating before, and this is the only change I made. I checked the thermostat, but there wasn't one, then I put in an 82, still the same problem. Not obvious leaks either. Fan working.

Many thanks

Ian

I would look toward the gauge because you had no thermostat and the water should have circulated. Did the water boil over also? Could the fan belt be lose? There is a handheld temp gun you can aim at the engine and they read temp to a close accurate reading . I think they are not pricey you can get them at Harbor Freight. I cannot see how the air filters caused overheating.

Thanks Yoda. Perhaps it could be something to do with belts etc. It didn't seem too loose to be honest, but I haven't really checked it well. I've had enough today. Got wizzed off when I tried to jump start it (because battery had been going flat whilst stood), and ended up with smoke coming from the alternator! So problem after problem I fear.

Perhaps a coincidence with the filters. You could take them off and see if it runs cooler although I don't see any reason why it would..
If it's hot where you are the fan might not be enough to cool the engine at idle.

Where does the gauge sit without the engine running? When you start the car, does the gauge creep up or jump to hot? Is it possible something came undone or lose when changing the filter like the water temp transmitter located on the side of the water pump housing.
