Overdrive

I used poly bushings

All right, I got that side housing off, cleaned the sludge out and now it's time to attack the valve cap and take out the spring, plunger and ball. I'm having trouble breaking it loose. It does turn left to loosten, doesn't it?

Good progress, did you have to undo driveshaft? Yes you turn the valve cap lefty loosy

Nope, I didn't have to undo the driveshaft. Just loostened the mounts and jacked up the tranny about a half inch. That gave me just enough clearance. How do I get the ball out?

Yep, a magnet should work. When putting it back in I gently tapped it with a rod and hammer to ensure a good seat.

Lifting the lever that actuates the valve will raise the assembly, remove the long valve part and clean thoroughly, especially the small aperture at the bottom which releases the pressure to disengage OD

I feel something like the Docs that advise people doing self surgery in the south pole

Everyone should have Norman Nocks Tech Talk book available from British Car Specialists

Can the solenoid get stuck in the ON position? Last question for awhile. Going back to watching and learning. Thanx, Elrey

The OD can get stuck in the on position. If I remember correctly my OD clutch was worn and would travel too far. It would not come back when the OD was switched off. I had to gently back up to get it to disengage (until it was fixed).

Progress update, Ball, plunger and spring all cleane. Ball tapped into place, spring, plunger and valve cap back on (copper washer seated tightly)

The OD may get stuck on, but not the solenoid, at least not likely

New problem. My new solonoid is working like gangbusters! when in 4th gear, ignition on,I turn on the OD and the solonoid pulls the plunger right up. So I did the procedure to set the lever but the lever doesn't drop when I turn the OD off. The solonoid lets the plunger drop but doesn't move the lever back doun. It's as if the rod that connects the lever to the manual lever on the offside is stiff.

I figured out how to set the stop scew under the plunger to let it drop lower but that didn't fix the problem. That rod is still to stiff. like it would work fine if the plunger was a bit heavier. What should I do now? Any suggestions?

Try pressing the excellerator pedalafter you turn the switvh off/

There is a spring on top of the ball that is on top of the operating valve pushrod. This spring should push down the lever when the solenoid is released. When you press the lever on the right side of the OD does it return on it's own when you let go of it?

The accellerator pedal had no affect. The manual lever usued to return on it's oun when I let it go, before I started any of this. I'm thinking that I (being the rookie that I am) used too much gasket goo/and didn't let it set long enough before I tightned everything back up. If some of that stuff oozed doun and is resting against that rod on the inside of the housing it would cause the friction/stifness in the rods movement. What do you think? Should I crack it back open and see if thats the problem?

I would take out the plug on top of OD to make sure spring is installed correctly

You can take the cover off with oil in the OD as oil only enters the accumulator when the pump is pumping when driving, but I don't understand what could be wrong in there.
