Many countries in Europe force manufacturers to not mix plastics (or any number of recyleables). Like others have said, this may have to start with the suppliers/makers.
China has rejected our "trash" for a couple of years now (which wasn't the best long-term solution anyway).
Yesterday afternoon the "new" neighbors had some sort of gathering, a couple cars parked across the street. On departure, one bunch had deposited their fast food detritus onto the ground. I put on a pair of nitrile gloves and gathered it up, carried it to the front entrance of the party house and left it on their doorstep. So far, no reaction.
