OT - what do you think, put a Rover V8 in it?

As a fellow who's own 308 is currently looking at $20K+ in engine repair I can say, couldn't be any worse than the original engine :eeek:

Didn't the 308 QV have a similar engine to one of the 80s model Fords?

The only mid-engined transaxle "production" Fords that come to mind are the Pantera and the GT40 and it's related "kin".

It wasn't from any mid-engined Ford, that I'm quite sure of. I wanna say it was from a Truck of some sort, but again, I don't recall for sure.

Given the history between the two, its highly doubtful. If its true, could have been a contributing factor to Enzo's demise.

Wait a minute, Pete! Which one do you want? A T-Bucket roadster (based on a Model T body up to 1927), or do you want a '32 -- often referred to as a Highboy in roadster/hot rod lingo?

Either honestly. Just that era, with an open top, and a massive exposed engine. I would have put rat-rod down, but my wife didn't know what that was (I had to give her an automotive history lesson that included ratfink cartoons).

(BTW, why '84?)

Theres a few minor changes among the different years (minor wiring bug, suspension geometry changes, and what not) but really I don't care as long as its the same body style. I had to put a year though, or my wife would look at the list and then continue to ask me what year. 84 seemed relatively bug free, if there was such a thing with shift-gate Ferraris.

There are some relatively large changes between '83 and '84, but not too many between '84 and '85. By late '85 some of the 328 upgrades make their way into the last of the 308s. Actually, if you can do without the 308 interior (I couldn't!), the 328 is the much better buy. More power, more reliable, and with the current market, the difference in price between the two is like $5-$10K.

So, without prying, what happened to your 308 engine? Just normal wear?

He got into a drag race with a MK1 spridget.

Power to weight ratio  now thats just fun!

It was bad luck combined with normal wear. This summer the front cam belt jumped a few teeth, and so the front bank made valve contact with the pistons, and boom. I don't yet know exactly why it happened. I was slightly late on doing a belt service, but the belt actually looks ok... The current theory is that the cam seized briefly for some reason. I won't know really why it did it until I get the engine apart.

When evaluating whether to just pull the head, fix it, and slap it back on, I got some pretty weak leakdown results from the other "good" bank, and a wet compression test told me the rings were tired also. The engine has 25 years and 85K on the clock, so I wasn't terribly surprised. I decided at that point that if I'm going to fix it, I'll rebuild the whole thing and have another 10+ years at least on it, rather than probably having to pull the engine again anyway in another couple years.

Okay, I'm crazy enough ...

:wall:

to consider a V12 conversion setup cause I know where a trans axle and V12 engine are sitting ... (no I'm not telling!)

So where is this 308 and how much do they want?

The only thing that could sway me would be a similar arrangement Pantera somewhere ...
