On The Road Again

After a long fight with the car and a bit of a search for new studs, my TR6 is back on the road.
I had to drill the hub for new studs which I expected to be the worst part of the job. But fortunately I found a self centering reamer of the proper size(how often does that happen) in my work samples that made it simple.
The caliper fought me every bit of the way getting into position. I think my verbage is still echoing through the neighborhood.
But, it's done. I need to find studs for the rest of the wheels.
I still don't know what caused my wheel to fall off. I can only guess that my wheel spacer bound up and didn't allow the wheel to seat properly. When it broke free on the road, everything else did.
 
I hope that you can find convincing evidence that the spacer was the cause before you get on the road again. I'd hate to see the same or worse happen again.
 
I'm confident the problem is solved. The spacer is only a guess, but I'm certain I would have felt a vibration when driving and I didn't.
I will be driving the car this weekend, and will be cautious until I am certain it's fixed.
Maybe it was the ghosts of Triumph's past and present. Would have been more fitting a month ago.
 
DougF I was wondering, was it the rear hub that fell off of your TR and if it was I've heard of this happening before to guys that race thier triumphs and many of them have used corvair hubs to avoid this from occuring.

Why do you have wheel spacers in the first place?
 
The front wheels had been scraping at the upper A-arm. An extra 1/4 inch eliminated the problem.
Yes, I have seem the Corvair rearends on TR's, but mainly on the solid axle cars. The 5 bolt pattern is a sure give away. The Triumph rearends will only take so much power before the explosion.
I want to build a new motor, but only to match England's 150 hp build. I'll keep a spare diff just in case.
 
If you're looking for a "better" solution for the rear hub/halfshafts pm me - I can point you to the guy who did mine. CV joints, stronger hub, bolt in replacement.
