I was in Barnes and Noble a few days ago, and heard them playing some R&B, the really good stuff, but being covered by someone else.
I made enquiries, and turns out that this is a new album by Seal, entitled "Soul". Now, prior to this, I knew him for being a talented singer and the man who won the fair hand of the fabulous Heidi Klum, but other that "Kiss From a Rose" was the only musical highlight that I had been aware of.
To say that this album knocked my socks off would be an understatement. I love the old R&B stuff, and he really does it justice. It takes a brave man to cover Al Green, but to take on Wilson Pickett??? He covers "I've been loving you too long" faithfully and in the manner that Pickett did the original, because let's face it, you can not improve on that version. Ever.
Otherwise, he puts his own slant on the songs where he can, but doesn't mess any of them up. Rare in this day and age of showing how far up and down the musical scale you can go on "one note" that is prevalent in R&B singing these days.
Did I say that I love this CD?
If you enjoy good classic R&B as much as I do, you'll love it too.
Review over!!
