I just got back to the hovel around 1530 today. Left Herself in Miami with her folks. She and MIL were to take visiting aunt from Germany to go shopping... I just got a call a minute ago from 'smits, they're at "Aventura Mall". She reports there were four gunshots fired somewhere nearby and police are swarming all over, the place is in "lockdown". This angers me beyond belief.

I HATE "shopping" and especially "malls" for this very reason. Opportunistic sadists exist. The LAST place I'd go is a major metro "mall" this time of year.


Now I'm REALLY pacin' th' cage. :madder:

We had 28 gunned down, walking distance from our house.
Gun nuts are everywhere this time of year.
 
At least she wasn't involved.This happens way too often.
I haven't been to the mall in months,& I don't miss it.I hate
fighting crowds,+ the rude people who stand talking in the
walkways,& the ones who expect you to move out of their way
when they're walking side-by-side.

Normally, ~I'm~ th' "trouble magnet". I can spot the stuff before it goes down, usually get self and company out of the circumstance ahead of the 'action'. After the fact it's always: "How did you KNOW?!?" My retort is: "How did you NOT?" Folk generally don't pay attention to their surroundings, I can't be like that.

'spose I'm just suspicious of people. "Trust everybody... but cut the cards."

I'm four hours away and completely helpless in this case. I have to sit here an' wait for the 'phone to ring. Y'all are stuck with me.
 
I'm like you doc. A few years ago I was sitting in conference room with 6 or 7 colleagues when a FORMER (disgruntled) employee suddenly appeared at the only doorway. It made me very nervous since I could not see his hands... it had me looking for other ways out of the room. By the way, this guy walked into the building unannounced an past the receptionist who was taking a "break".... scary.

If she can call you, it sounds like an inconvenience at this point instead of any danger. AT least that's the positive feeling I'm putting out there.

What has the local news said?

Plus, usually something like that is all over the national news....but, right now nothing that I see or hear other than the terrorist who tried to blow up a plane but only caught himself on fire.

Have you called the mall office?
 
I'm no longer "local" but have the "live" nat'l feed on. No mention so-far.

You know as well as I what callin' that "office" would yield.
 
Yep, they'd probably tell you the hours the mall is open & then if you asked about police activity in the mall tell you to call the local force for that info.
 
So, does her phone tell you it is 'off' or does it just ring....or go to the mailbox?
 
Mailbox. Just got her call, gunman shot by cops in the parking garage. All over local Miami news, nothin' here yet.

I can stand down. All safe.
 
I'm now headed for th' scotch locker. Been drinkin' coffee since 0800! :crazyeyes:
