Oil / Water Gauge Line and the 3 loops?

Hi All & Happy New Year!
Ended up having to drain the radiator in order to remove the temp sensor without making too much of a mess...
This is the first time I drained the radiator fluid.
Shouldnt there be a copper washer on the drain plug?
Moss shows a drain valve, but I simply have a drain plug without a washer...
Before I refill, is a washer needed? Not sure why is wasnt leaking before?

There's a saying, it it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I went through 3 drain plugs from Moss. They were the "correct" ones for my car. Every one they sent me leaked. I ended up going to the hardware store and buying a universal plug.

Now I do try and buy parts that look correct in keeping with somewhat of an original car, but if the part I'm trying to use doesn't work, then I give in to what does not look correct, but works.

You've got a plug that works, use it. It's in a area that no one, but you and...well everyone here...lol, will know about. It's not visible.

If the plug is not damaging the radiator bottom and it's not leaking...consider yourself lucky to have one part of the car does not need fixing.

Hi Bob, take your radiator to a reliable place and usually they will replace the drain plug as a matter of fact. They can't let a leaky radiator leave their shop. Don't worry about it.

My radiator has already been re-cored by the PO, so no need to take it out and to a rad shop. This make-shift plug was installed and the radiator repainted with the plug installed. This was obvious, as when I removed the plug, the paint came off on the plug and around the area.

I could use some thread tape, but I think I will order and install a valve. Will make draining next time a bit easier.

When you say "standard healey drain plug", is this the MOSS one?

Yes that " MOSS one" will work OK--


.Alternatively, most responsible shops will replace the drain valve if it is found to be defective, altered or damaged with one that is a standard type used on American cars.


IMOP, if the PO had this radiator repaired at a shop, that shop was not a responsible shop and a proper draim valve should to be installed--Fwiw-Keoke-
