TR6 Oil sending light

Hello All,

Trying to figure out a rats nest of wires under dash. I've tracked down the oil light and I think I have it correct according to the color scheme. How exactly would that activate?
Thanks, Bill 73' TR6

Should be an oil pressure switch mounted on the engine. If you still have the 3 terminal kind, one of the terminals gets a wire to ground; but the earlier single terminal kind grounds through the threads.

On a 73, the hot side of the oil light is kind of strange, as it connects to the brake warning light. The brake warning light in turn gets power from the white circuit (switched but not fused). If the brake warning switch (aka PDWA) is closed, the oil light does not work. Ditto if the brake light is burned out or someone removed the bulb.

When the oil light does work, it is in series with the brake light (they both come on). Maybe it wasn't that way originally, but on my 71 Stag (with the same circuit but different lamps), the brake light is much brighter than the oil light.

Hi Bill,

This might help to verify your connections at the switch...

I'm not sure which warning light you are referring to, the red ign light or the one on the dash that I thought was associated with the handbrake?

There's no warning lamp associated with the hand brake on the 73 cars.
The BRAKE light on the dash can come on under 2 conditions....assuming proper connections and working bulbs.
Less than 5 psi Oil Pressure... then both the BRAKE light and the OP warning lamp will glow with 6 volts each
A brake fluid pressure imbalance between the front and rear brakes....then only the BRAKE lamp will glow and glow brightly with all 12 volts.

What he said. BTW, information like this can be found in the owner's manual, which is a good resource to have. TRF has reprints available for a US-spec 73: P/N 545111/73.

Hi Bill.

Just click on the picture. It should open up larger in another screen. Please let me know if that works for you.
