Oil In Radiator - Long

Dropped by the friend that lent me the oil pan to get home. We are going to do the head gasket 'fix' after Thanksgiving. He also has a block that can be used if and when we have to go that route. He also suggested a good cooling system cleaning to get the oil residue out.

In the meantime, I need to get our daughters BJ8 winterized and moved to storage.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I think many of us learned a little bit more about our favorite LBC's.
 
Hi Bob, after going back and looking at your photo again that must have been a pretty large rock. When you had the oil pan off did you notice any damage to the con rod? There could be subsequent damage to the crank as well.

I've driven it approximately 260 miles since the damage with oil pressure and water temp readings the same as before and no strange noises coming from the engine.
 
I just thought of one more area that may be the cause of your problem. You may want to check for a cracked cylinder sleeve. I hope it's nothing more then a head gasket. However, as long as you are pulling the head off, You may as well inspect the cylinder sleeves while your at it! I wish you well! Michael, IL.
 
Here is a before and after picture after following Dave's flushing method and a 60 mile run on interstate. Think I'll declare victory for the time being and monitor the radiator after each outing in the future.

If you take pan off check liners from below, possible a jolt from pan moved something. Timing cover, ??

Those photos look like really good news! I agree with your plan, just keep checking from time to time. I had hoped you didn't have block porosity - I don't know about you, but I would rather let where the oil came from remain a mystery than tear apart a motor that is running good. Obviously keep an eye on all the vitals and keep us posted.

Well, finally bit the bullet and had the head pulled. Warped .004 with lots of visible oil on the gasket surface. Head planned and back together and after a 65 mile interstate run water looks (almost) clean enough to drink after doing the degreaser routine to clean the block and radiator. Compression ranges from 145 - 160 psi, which is much better than before. Averaged 27.5 MPG on the run.
We have a 400 mile trip planned this coming weekend and if that goes as expected will be off to Conclave in mid-June.
I continued to drive Miss BT and never had any problem with either oil pressure or engine temp. Finally decided it was time.
