I ordered more stuff yesterday. This time a rebuild kit for 1 HS6, plus a new damper spring (Yellow - 8oz), and a new float bowl angle spacer. I decided to order my bits from Advanced Performance Technology located in Riverside, CA.
The guy I spoke to on the phone seemed to be relatively knowledgeable about SU carbs. I told him what I needed, and what I am putting it on, and the first thing he asked was whether it came out of a Volvo. From there he told me that I probably don't need to get a new needle, and that it'll more than likely be rich enough, if not too rich. He even knew that the throttle shaft tends to wear out before the holes tend to elongate. While on the phone, he went around their parts bins and made sure they had all the parts I wanted on hand before completing the order. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
Later, after I'd gotten home from work, I decided to 'psych myself up' for the job, and tore down my HS6 (thanks Doc!) til it was nothing but a hunk of aluminum. I removed the needle from the piston, and low and behold it is a ZH profile needle! (the profile I need for my application). And the throttle shaft indeed had worn grooves while the holes were in large part still good.
Anyways, I should have the bits today or tomorrow. I think I'm gonna stop off someplace and pick up some liquid Brasso so I can do some hand polishing over the next few days.
