Odometer repair

Mickey...the speedo got here today !! Looks like it ought to work. Now just need to swap them out and see.

Paul...thank you for saying that

Gary

Well, the speedo swap was a POC ! A lot easier than we figured it would be. Like Doc said...about 10 minutes. Now for "the rest of the story"...

The odometer and trip meters seem to work just fine but at 3000rpm in 4th gear I'm indicating 20mph. Could it be that the speedo itself needs some sort of lubricant where the cable drive hooks in? The old speedo worked fine but had no joy with the odo or trip. What do ya think? Thanks.

A ~very light~ "instrument oil" at the shaft of the needle and on the gear, from inside the instrument may help... talk to a jeweler/watch maker, you want a "pen oiler". A needle as thin as a hypodermic one on the end of a container of oil the size of a Sharpie pen. Be deliberate (meaning:conservative) when applying the lube.

Almost sounds "specialized"...So you're saying I'd have to open the instrument to do this? Do you think it may be worth all the trouble to even try it?

of course it's worth it - you've got it there.

Actually may just be slipping in the connection too. can you insert or tighten it further?

Well, we took the case off and can't see anything apparently wrong. Got it as tight as possible. Plan "B" now is this...
Our speedo works and Mickey's odo/trip meter work. We are going to put his odo/trip meter components into our speedo. Theoretically, we should have a working instrument. Won't be able to get to it until probably next weekend. Thanks everyone.
