Follow up to my brake pad question earlier this week.

So acting on the advice of my friend (one our local clubs mechanics) I started addressing the brakes this weekend. He said the right front locked up on him on a test drive after replacing the steering rack & crossmember bushings and thought the brakes where a bit spongy purchased the hawk pads & new shoes but as it turns out the shoes & pads where fine so I’ll save the new ones for later on this summer. However it was definitely time to flush the tired old brake fluid. The rear’s fluid was really sad looking and the front lines weren’t that much better. Then I adjusted the rear shoes according to the manual and everything looks great. Much more positive peddle feel now too.

Going to take it for a short road test. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

WOOHOO!!! Me ol' grandad always said: "Don't matter how FAST it goes if it can't STOP good too!"

Great road test. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Let the brakes warm up a bit making gradual conservative stops. Then I did everything I could to bring her down hard. Now lock ups, drifting or pulling to one side or another. Nice brake feedback, quick & controlled stops.

Amazing what a little fresh fluid will do? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Who needs ABS anyway?!?!

ABS is for SoccerMoms!!!

Well done, sir!

I've lokcked up my brakes once. only once. And it was because some ninny decided they wanted to turn right from the left lane at 2 MPH, when I was less than half a car length away. Right Rear locked IIRC. Other than that and a mild temper flare, it was a non-event.

Ettore Bugatti once commented on criticism to his early cars poor brakes that he made his cars to GO not to stop. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

True story: I did a work stint in Strasbourg a few years ago; it's equal parts German/French and trult beautiful. Weird cathedral, they only built half of it?!
