NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me...

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

Smebody wants them more than me! My max bid was $61 - he's up to $114 & will end up getting them....if I needed them for more than spares, I'd bid $150, however....

He got a bit more than $150.
Good for him, probably would have been less if I hadn't brought it up here /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

At $150.00, you could relist as soon as you get them sell them again on ebay and make money, I was in there for awhile, long enough to run the thiefs off. I bought a 3.7 midget diff off ebay for $65.00, cleaned it up real good (which is the key) and painted up nice, waited and relisted it at the perfect time, when a couple of them had just ended on some very active auctions, it brought $420.00. I had a Cooper s 1275 big vlave head, I bought with three heads for $50.00, cleaned it up put a valve job on it myself, painted real nice, even skim decked, it brought $480.00. You wouldn't believe how many things I get for a deal by when people alert me to on forums, food for thought. I sell alot more than I buy though. The secret to ebay is bid what are really willing to give, that's what I did with this auction, eiter I get or I don't and I buy and sell all the time, sooner or later you will get plenty of deal by hanging around. I sold over $20K, just messing around in my spare time on ebay in the last few years. I aslo bought stuff at a helva deal too, I got my F350 crew cab for about $7k under the market on ebay, and that was 4 years ago, it's been a great truck.

Yep Tony, that was not a bad price if you really needed them and I do not need any new tasks to make a few bucks. When I talked to you at your bid price, I would have set a $160.00 bid on em I knew someone was playing footsie wid the price. However, I Bid on the Kenwood KRC 1004 radio to cement every ones attention on it. They bid it to $144.00 I ran over and got the KRC 1007 which is a better RCVR with preamp out puts for a Buy now of $75.00.--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

Well, I'm not too bummed - I really didn't need them

Hap, that's what I dislike about the way ebay does things now...had I known you were bidding, I wouldn't have!

(oh, plan on seeing you early next week)

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

Tony, It doesn't matter if we both ended up bidding on it that's the nature of auction, I was bidding on them purely as an investment, the auction will take it's natural course no matter who's bidding, bottom line neither one of were going to get them for under $100. Sometimes I see people I know bidding on something, If I want to bid, I bid, it's not personal, it's a auction. I used to spend a hour a day searching Ebay for stuff, now I've slacked off. I see people all the time trying to get stuff for nothing, it works out ever once in a while, but most of time popular items will bring thier worth. I used to bid on every 1275 crank that came up on Ebay, I'd just plug the most I was willing to pay, I lost quite a few of them but in a year, I manged to win about 12 1275 cranks and normally got them for far less than my max bid. In restropect on these carbs we were both trying to steal them and I would gladly gave $150 for them if I had pay more attention to the auction, I was still top bidder with under 10 minutes to go, but with nabber services (which I have used in the past)you can lose a auction in the final second. I used a nabber service to buy my almost new Skatblast bead blast cabinet off Ebay, I saved well over $400 ovr buying a new one, I bought a brand new Superflow flowbench off Ebay for $1800, which is about $900 under a new from Superflow, I bought the biggest part of Land and SEA dyno for $1000, that was a easy savings of $4000 for the components I got. There are plenty of deals on Ebay and it's a great place to sell as well, I sell more on Ebay than I do say on forums in the clasified or trader section, because I find often it brings more money and I'm not connected to the person in anyway, so I dont have make a deal so to speak. Tony don't worry about bidding on anything I bidding on, you bid away, it's fair game and if you ever win a auction over me, I will never get mad about it. I've been going to auctions since I was kid, heck I was raised at auto auctions, so who I'm bidding agisnt makes no difference to me if I know them or not, it's just a auction. In fact Tony here's would be my advice to you, change your Ebay screen name, so people don't know it's you or set up a different account just for buying, I found when my screen name was acmespeedshop, I got too many Midget racers bidding on something just because I was bidding, they would fiquire if I was bidding it must be a decent item, so I like the fact I can hide behind a screen name, and I changed my screen name several times to stay unknown, it's a smart stratagy for someone like you or I.

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

I've gotten some great deals on ebay, and I've sold some things for IMHO way more than their worth.

I have a few simple rules (for myself) for dealing on ebay.

When Selling:
Take plenty of pictures, especially include any defective or irregular parts of the item. Put small versions on the auction linked to much larger versions stored on a server. Describe the item as best as possible, including any parts that are not 100%. Start the auction at a price I'm willing to let go of the item. There's always a bottom line price that I would sell the item for, that's where I try to start off my auction - I'm there to exchange the item for money - not to see what it might be worth.

Example: I had a home theater projector I had bought new and used for almost two years. I had put a lot of hours on the bulb. It still threw a great image and worked / looked perfectly. I listed it at $250 which was my bottom line, someone in Canada thought it was worth $650. You could buy that model new at that time for $650. He couldn't get a new one shipped to him in Ontario for $650 so he felt he was getting a good deal. I thought I got a great deal, so everybody won.

When Buying:
1. If I really want something I don't tell anybody about it. The more people who know about an item the higher the final price might be.

2. I decide beforehand what I am willing to pay, if the price goes beyond that I look for another auction.

3. I don't bid until the last possible moment for me to bid, and when I bid it's the price I will pay. If it goes beyond (and this is the hard part) I don't get into a bidding war over it. Call me a sniper if you will (hey I kind of like the sound of that...) EbaySniper... Wonder if that's taken?.

If I miss a few items because of these personal rules then so be it. I've missed things I really wanted because I got distracted by Real Life.

Getting a bit older and having had a brain infection several years ago helps me with the "letting go" part. In case you don't know a brain infection can cause various kinds of memory glitches, a bit like a mild case of Alzheimer's. It's great for the stress levels if you just don't remember stuff very well - hard to be stressed about stuff that "never happened". Man I'm turning into a real "glass is half full" - "silver lining" kind of a guy...

But I ramble... Like I do so often...

Hmmm.. What was I saying?

Re: NOS SU's on ebay - look a bit different to me.

I rarely bid on ebay & have long ago stopped selling there...probably could make more money, but...

When I go there, I'm usually looking for bargains

But I do bid on almost every Triumph America or Speedmaster motorcycle that pops up...some day I'll get one

Yep, Hap...theAutoist has become too well known - I probably do need to change my ebay name.
