noisy shifter

I had the exact same issue with a fancy pants wooden shift nob from VB. The solution was remove the metal insert (the threaded metal part) from the wooden nob. Once removed I covered the insert with silicon and pushed it back into the nob. Problem solved! Free and easy

If the knob is the rattle culprit, it can be made fast by removing the knob, finding a thin "jam"-nut with the right threads, (radio knob shaft retainer or toggle-switch retainer), threading it onto the shift lever ahead of the knob, re-install knob and "jam-tighten" nut back against it to eliminate rattle!

Yup I will try that this weekend. What size nut should I be getting from Home depot while I buy the O ring?
