That this was national pull out in front of a 50 year old British sports car weekend. We had both our 100-6 and Sprite out for a couple hundred miles this weekend, and it was like a zoo - glad we're home. :wall:

And next week is <span style="text-decoration: underline">National Move Over on the Shoulder and Spray Rocks all over a 50 year-old British Sports Car</span> day.

That's exactly what happened to the 100-6. Rolling along at about 60 mph, and some fool passed on the right on a two lane country road.

Youth and a cell 'phone?

Let's not lay it all on youth...I run into my fair share of "senior" miscreants too!!!

A guy on the motorcycle forum I visit had a senior pull out right in front of him on Saturday. She was making a left onto his road, he hit her rear door and flipped over her car. He's relatively OK, I just wish people would drive like their lives (and others) counted on it.

Unfortunately, Greg, that happens all too often!! Sometimes I think bikes should be equipped like emergency vehicles (with sirens and flashing lights) so that motorists will have no choice but to notice them!!!

I see people driving along blocking firetrucks and ambulances with sirens and lights flashing all the time. They won't move over, speed up, pull off, nothing. I think some of them don't have enough sense to do anything, but I've looked at some that I honestly believe just flat don't notice the emergency vehicles are there. It's little wonder they don't see motorcycles, and it's a miracle they don't hit more regular 'old cars!

Miracle indeed.

So many self-absorbed/self-centered people driving around it astounds me we aren't ALL dead or disfigured.

Rolling around in anything smaller than a Hummer requires "situational awareness" and your head on a swivel. If I can't make EYE CONTACT with a driver, I consider it to be an imminent threat circumstance.

Couldn't agree more Doc. Especially about the "situational awareness". Mentioned that exact phrase on a mailing list one time and was criticised by a person, who I won't name, for preaching to people about how they should drive. I was confused until he complained about damaging the suspension on his TR6 by repeatedly hitting a particularly large pothole. Which is when I realized he was one of those that simply do not pay attention while they drive.

Sometimes I have to remind myself though that not everyone is hypervigilant like I am. So its not always there fault if they are not paying attention.

I learned in my midget that many trucks and SUV's set their mirrors to see down the sides of their cars, but not the street. That put my midget below the line of sight in most people's mirrors (Of course assuming they were using the mirrors)
Defensive driving takes on a whole new perspective when you are a in midget between four SUV's at a stoplight. LOL

When you're beside them and you see the SUV's turn signal come on, it's time for some quick thinking - and sometimes the horn :iagree:

LOUD Pipes save Lives!

Being noticed is Rule One in Defensive driving.

But loud pipes are only heard after the bike has gone past!

June 1st begins "Flip your cigarette butt out of your pickup or SUV sunroof at the 50 year old British car behind you with the top down week".

There is room for all sorts of idiots in our little world.

I recently read an article in which a Massachusetts woman was quoted as saying that she never made eye contact, and never used her signal lights because it would be like "<span style="font-style: italic">giving too much information to the enemy</span>".

With that attitude it's no wonder we have problems.

Happened to me, on a police motorcycle, lights and all..... someone pulled out in front of me. Luckily I had time to avoid. "Sorry Officer, I didn't see you!" Also happened to a friend of mine, he was busted up pretty well. If it's not a regular car, motorists JUST DON'T TAKE ANY NOTICE OF YOU!

Tony nailed it! Loud pipes get noticed by people behind the cycle, or those who live near by and have to put up with the din. Those who need to be warned can not hear those pipes until it's too late!

Visibility is the key, always has been. Bright colours, neon even, especially the helmet. PLEASE don't tell me that any of you guys ride without one!?!

'smits unwritten rule #1: "Doc don't ride two wheels no more!"

I'm most likely alive today by adhering to this Primary "rule". :jester;
