"Professor" Parsons was one of those old-school racers that seemed like a fun and agreeable character. I did not follow his race career, but I liked him when I saw him announcing NASCAR on ESPN. I hope his loss will get some of you to stop smoking.
As for NASCAR....I enjoy the road-course events at Watkins Glen and Mexico City and look forward to more of these type of events. I've done plenty of laps around The Glen...it's impressive what the NASCAR guys can do there in a fairly primitive 3500 pound car with 800 HP. One of my brothers just rode shotgun in a Busch car at Pocono. He said that 170 MPH is pretty exciting, even in a big tri-oval like Pocono. I'll bet.
I have to admit that the roundy-round races do not hold my interest, but to each, his own!
One of my students runs a NASCAR modified and it seems like a great way to race. I wish the sports car clubs could support their racers and market themselves all well as NASCAR.
