I've been married about 4.5 years now... My family is from far northern West Virginia. My wife's family is from West Central Alabama.
In West Central Alabama it is a customary tradition to eat Black Eyed Peas, greens, and Hog Jowl (uncut bacon with the pork skin still on).
All this for good luck in the new year (traditionally).
In West Virginia, it is customary tradition to eat pork (any pork will do), and sauerkraut (or just cabbage). Well... the wife and I just decided that Hog Jowl is pork... black eyed peas is black eyed peas... and sauerkraut is "greens"... or it once was before it was fermented. hehehehehehehehehe.
What are you having? (or considering my timing... what did you have?)
