new wiring loom

NO!!! It has already been pointed out in this thread(post #3), but this bears repeating. The brown wire NEVER goes through the firewall to the dashboard. It is not supposed to go to the dash.

Well :
In the BJ8 a brown wire is available on the dash side of the firewall to accommodate the radio if fitted or the owner wants to add one at a later date.???

I was referring specifically to his vehicle as none of the pre-BJ8 diagrams show any brown wires other than the two I mentioned. The BJ8 wiring is substantially different from the earlier cars. But you are correct, I should have made that point clear in my post.

The diagram I have from the workshop manual shows 2 brown wires for the B(N/T/J)7's going through the firewall. One goes to the light switch, the other to the ignition switch. They do what the brown/blue wire does in the earlier cars.

Well, dammit. That means one of the very old diagrams that I have is probably mislabeled. Both of mine show those two wires being brown/blue.It may also mean that the OP has the wrong harness if does not include those wires OR the harness manufacturer used the earlier colors. Wonder what the wire colors are at the voltage regulator.

Side note: The harness makers make mistakes. I installed a new harness in our BN2 using the shop manual's schematic and the turn signals didn't work correctly. After triple-checking my connections and even removing the brake/turn signal relay box and cleaning all the points we finally figured out that one of the wires was the wrong color/tracer. This was very frustrating because it wasted a lot of our time and I would have had the harness installed 100% correct on the first go.

The harness came from Moss--not blaming them--and I don't know who their supplier is/was. It was otherwise very good quality.

On the wiring diagram that I have for the 3000s there is NO brown wire to the dashboard. The wires being talked about should be Brown and Blue and run from the regulator to the light switch then to the ignition. The brown wire runs from the fuse to the voltage regulator and then to the starter solenoid.

The (PVC) cloth covered wiring harness that I recently bought from Moss, specifically for a Longbridge BN4, also has a brown wire running through the firewall to the ignition switch. The switch works as it should with that brown wire connected.

Manufacturers do make errors. The last harness I installed was in a '54 Studebaker Commander Starliner. It took hours to find and correct a factory wiring error at the fuse box. Thank goodness for test lights.
