Anyone out there ever have a new water pump go noisy on them after only 6 months? Since I have to replace this, a six blade impeller is available. Anybody out there have good luck with one of these? Thanx!!!

New pumps do fail sometimes. These big belts should be run a bit looser than more modern narrow vbelts. Dunno about the 6 vanes at all.

I second Bob's comments on making sure the belt is run loose and that a new pump can fail. The tight belt will surely kill a pump. I have used a six vane pump and liked it. But I was never sure of any increased performance. One problem I did find is that some of these units had a smaller threaded end (front) on the shaft. That was the apparent cause of a failure for me. There is also a five bladed pump available.

Thanx for your input on this. I'll run the belt a little looser on this. Also upon closer inspection this morning I found that the the nut on the end of the WP pulley was gone and the the threaded end had sheared off. Lucky I didn't lose the pulley when I started to hear this noise.

Here is a page from the lucas service manual showing how (not) tight the belt should be. I think most people think it needs to be tighter. Even with an alternator installed, I am surprised how well it works as loose.
