Just purchased a 59 100-6 good 10 ft car . Looks like show car from 10 ft . Well driven and pretty much well maintained . 108,000 miles .NO RUST. .... I would like it to drive better . Front end and a little steering play .
I see shims at end of steering column in manual . If I take this apart and remove shims with this improve " tightness" of steering .
also camber is too much . How to adjust?
This motor might b a little tired but plan to drive it as is .110 compression
I adjusted carbs and timing and found points really really gaped.
starts better and runs better now . I just eyed the gap . I find it's .015 was twice that or more. Will check with feeler gauge .
Could wide points make car run warm . As well as hard to start ? I guess if they were too wide would not start at all.
I've noticed it was running 190 and now just under 180 Temp
Any body know where to get parts for turn signal behind horn parts /repair

Thot I d never have one of these , especially the current prices.
Thanks for any advice .

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your new toy!

First, I suggest you join the Austin Healey Club of America https://healeyclub.org/. There are also local clubs affiliated with the AHCA, but not in Arkansas. Maybe there is one in a nearby state. Next, you should have a shop manual. Bentley (the publisher, not the car) makes the "official" one.

As for steering and front end play, there are various ball joints, bearings and bushings that can be worn out. The shims on the end of the steering box are for adjusting the steering shaft bearings. Play in the steering is usually adjusted by a nut on top of the steering box. Adjusting the nut won't help if other parts are worn.

Instructions for rebuilding the trafficator, or control head, behind the horn button can be found here: https://www.acmefluid.com.au/larry/trafficator.html.

Chris,

Welcome to the group! Don't forget to post pictures of the Healey.

Welcome,

As suggested, Get Robert Bentley's book, its far better than the other books
Take your time to look in to this forum. There is an answer for almost everything

There is no adjustment for camber on an Austin Healey. You either have to install sliding top plates, a big job, or install some offset trunnions. There is always a little play in the steering as well, due to the worm and peg system which is not as precise as rack and pinion.

Thanks for the tips ...Love this healy
