New Memeber 1500 trans in question

Im currently combining two projects. The 1500 series trans that cam with my car leaks terribly. I have an other good unit but decided to clean paint and replace various seals before the swap. I noticed upon teardown that teh bellhousing has no seal around the main shaft. It seams the collar has 5 or 6 grooves. Is this a leak prone area? Ive updated the gaskets and drive shaft seal as well as speedo oring. Also used some blue pipe dope on the plug threads. New Copper gasket for bottom bellhousing bolt. Any other pointers to achieve a leak free 1500 trans

I just went through the same thing with my 1500 tranny. I was confused about the lack of oil seal in the front, even ordered one. Turns out not all trannys have an actual oil seal in the front. The grooves you see are an oil scroll. They should in theory prevent oil from coming past. The new copper washer on the bottom bolt will help, mine had a split washer on it.

I've only put about fifty miles on it since I've done the work, so far, so good. I didn't think about the speedo oring.

Oh, don't over fill it, I think that was one of the reasons mine was leaking.

I know, hard to overfill, but....if one end of the car is jacked up, it is possible.

Thanks much. I do not beleive this tranny leaked as bed as the one in the car now but just dont want to screw something up b'cause of lack of knowledge. (Lots of work to get that thing in there)
