Hello,

Thanks for the add. I’ve owned two Triumphs in the past, but nothing for 30 years. Our first child was born 30 years ago and at that time I dropped one of my hobbies. Over the years I have attended British cars shows, always with the intent of owning again.

My wife recently told me to go out and buy a Brit car, so I’ve been looking for the past month. I’ve been looking for an MGB, I missed out on a nut and bolt restoration by a day. Currently I’ve narrowed it down to one of three MGBs. And now a fully restored TR4A IRS has entered the fray. Although I’m leaning to an MGB, mainly for the cabin space. It’s tough to find a rust free MGB in my neck of the woods. So I’m looking at risky distance purchase.

I am retired RCAF, hence the handle Hornet Handler.

Cheers, Gary

Gary - something I've found helpful several times. In considering a distant "risky" purchase, always contact a club in the area, and ask if someone from the club can go out and actually inspect/drive the car in question.

I've never been asked to pay for this, but have often made a contribution to the club, or the "inspector's" favorite charity.

welcome! I am in Prince Edward County and while I can't get to Hamilton there is every chance I can find someone there who could take a look.

And, MGB's are like buses there is always another coming. Don't feel pressured. (and certainly finding a local car means you can spend the $1000+ that you would have to pay to ship the car from Hamilton on the car itself)

Good advice, I just need to wait for another nice one to show up locally. You aren’t the first to say this. I certainly haven’t felt pressured, as I have had several local options. I only really liked two, one I had a bill of sale on, the seller sold it to another person later the same day, for $1,000 more. I could have pushed it that we had an agreement but I’d rather my money not go to him.

have you contacted any local clubs? They often have things and are typically more realistically priced
