OUCH - this is horribly long. Sorry all.

Background:

1968 GT6 MK I - born on 26 February 1968.
Original Canadian Car - sold at Leyland Motor Sales in Toronto
I am the 5th owner I believe. First 3 in Ontario and then car moved west in 03 or 05.
I purchased it in September 2009 at a classic car auction in Red Deer, Alberta.
I am in southeastern Alberta and wouldn't mind getting together with Saskatchewan, ND or MT Triumph owners.

From what I can tell, the car is mostly all original, with the odd minor exception (fuel pump, some interior bits, paint job, etc.).

It is my fun car and I get way more satisfaction from driving it than my 97 Mercedes SL320.

At this point I have no restoration plans (although it would be cool to have it all brand new for its 50th birthday in 2018). Mainly trying to keep it original and drive it as much as I can.

In keeping with originality I am in the process of trying to aquire some odd bits and pieces as follows:
- bonnet letter kit (with studs and fasteners)
- L671 rear red lense
- brake cylinder tin cap
- fuel pump
- fuse box cover

Only want NOS or recycled / used bits in order to maintain some semblance of originality. New / Repro parts have their place, but not for everything.

Now some photos.

Like a pretty gal at closing time, looks can be deceiving.

It is your typical 10 or 20 footer (or in Canadianese - the 3 or 6 metre-er).

Its got its share of stone chips and hood zits, but because of them I am not scared to drive it. There is one larged sized zit on the hood, and below the paint is a thin coat of white filler. Thinking of a racing stripe or contrasting hood color as the zit annoys me and is noticable.

I am more happy with its orginality than anything. 40+ years old, 72xxx miles and very little has been replaced.

Had most of the steering components gone through this year in order to pass safety inspection. Wouldn't mind cleaning up the shocks and springs at some point, but that would in some ways detract from the overall patina of the car.

It will be fun and at some point I will do some upgrades.

I recently picked up a period correct Triumph radio so will plunk that it some time. I don't even care if the radio works as it is more for the look than anything. A Triumph car should have a Triumph radio in it, and not a Broadcast brand radio.

Thanks for the comments and keep the wheels pointed down.

Very beautiful. I have a 1970 Red GT6+

Oh and thanks for the new background.

Really a nice example, relatively unmolested. You are a very lucky man, and your attitude toward keeping her mostly original is commendable.

Not many like this one left out there, really a great find. MK Is and MK IIs are getting scarcer than hen's teeth, no matter where you go on the planet. And, unmolested ones, practically nonexistant.

Take good care of her, treat her with respect. :yesnod:

And, enjoy!

In attempting to keep it relatively original its not so easy trying to figure out what was and was not factory.

Case in point is my fuel pump.

Car came with the metal top fuel pump which corresponds with John Thomason's Triumph Spitfire and GT6 - A Guide to Originality. Page 114 states that after KC5001 Triumph switched from glass topped to metal topped. However most everyone I talk to says that it should have a glass topped, even tho my build is well after KC5001.

Are there any other definitive sources for this type of information? My certificate from the British Heritage Trust does not comment on the fuel pump.

Thanks
