New Look - Discussion

Thought that might be the case also but its not.

They're working OK for me...

I like the new appearance very much. It's a whole lot easier on the eyes ( in the sense of reading without eye strain).

I can even read posts without my glasses.

By the way....I'll make a separate post about this too, but I have hacked the forum software to make the side bars behave the way I want them to. You can now turn OFF the left and right side bars from your "My Preferences." However, if you do turn them off, the side boxes will still appear while you are viewing the main forum list page (The Page that lists all the forums) and also the Topic list page in any forum. However, as soon as you click on a topic to read, the side bars will disappear and you will be able to read the thread in FULL screen (if you want to turn off the side boxes). The main complaint with the side bars being their was that the screen wasn't as wide as some people would like when reading threads or making replies. This should make everyone happy (but it probably won't  ) and now when people turn off the side boxes they will still see them when just listing forums or listing topics, but have the full screen when it really matters.

I am going to be turning OFF the portal page eventually.

t! When I first came on I thought I was lost in the internet, then I saw some familiar things! I really like it!

I like that option, Basil!!!

Terrible on the eyes.

Colored type on a colored background is hard to read.

The font sizes are smaller and harder to see.

Have a good graphics person review with an eye towards effective communication.

You can change your prefs under My Stuff >> My Preferences.

I had to think a minute! Great job! Sight is a keeper and thanks for the work Basil!

The new look is OK - but the Spitfire is UGLY!!!!
Why does it come up on every Forum?

If there's anything that needs a bit o' tweaking, it's that graphic at the top of the page. Couple things ...

1. the random ad on the top right seems like it's just been tossed in the corner; there's no frame or mask around the ad, so the images and text conflict with the new BCF graphic itself. At 1024x768 the ad is in a grey block, but the left side of the ad overlays the BCF graphic. At 800x600 the ad actually covers the right side of the BCF graphic.

2. I'm still puzzled by the "erased" image under the checker flag.

3. the "color bands" that run horizontally under the BCF graphic make it nearly impossible to read the text choices "British Car Forum - Main Home Page Β» Forums Β» General Discussions Β» The Pub Β» New Look - Discussion " etc just under the graphic. I can increase or decrease text size to give a temporary "fix", but when I move to another topic or forum, the text changes size again.

4. it may be my tired ol' eyes, but the blue text on a dark grey background is kinda tough to read. Bottom of page, the line beginning Moderator: etc. White would be much more visible on the dark grey. Can't find a way to change that blue/dark grey in the preferences; fortunately the combination is usually rare on the pages.

Other than these minor things, I still think it's a great new look.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I'm probably going to make some adjustments, especially with the color of text on the menu/navigation bars.
