New Intake Manifold

Country flag
Offline
Has anyone tried the free flow intake manifold produced by Moss Motors? It's found under new products in their on line catalogue. I'm a sucker for bolt on horsepower, but $1,400 is a bit steep. I currently have an exhaust header and Monza exhaust on my car. Had the head ported and polished when I had a valve job done. ( 67 BJ8 ) Steve :greedy_dollars:

You might consider the DMD manifold at $975 AUD ($755 USD). It requires conversion to straight-up float bowls (Joe Curto has them).

Scroll down.
Seems like even with import costs you'd still be somewhat below the Moss cost but with additional hassle.

These manifolds are made for HD8s (from experience I can say they work just fine with HD6s, too).
You've done that head work and the stock manifold is likely the choke point in your system.

Addenda: Joe Curto's an excellent source of cross-marque SU information. Besides the straight float bowls, he sold me 1/8" Jaguar insulating blocks for my HD8s - necessary to get the front dome out from under the wing.

I have the twin DMD intake manifold using 2" HD'S on the race car. I got the float bowls and the newer style of floats from Burlen in the UK. Joe Curto rebuilt the carbs with the new bowls. He had done one other set up with a customer/friend of his using the DMD intake. Everything works well.

Anybody try this manifold yet? I thought I would bring the thread back. My carbs are at Joe Curto's so if I were to change intake now is the time.

If you're referring to the DMD, I've been running it for years. Am in the process of converting to Mikuni HSR 45s.

Lin,
Did a dyno run with a friend who has an identical engine, except his has stock exhaust, intake and HD6 carbs. Mine also has Kirk headers. His was 110 rwhp, mine 130.

I did it just to have a different unique setup.

Besides the manifold (available from the Healey Factory in OZ), you need vertical float bowls. The engine mounts need to be shimmed up about 1/4" for the rear carb to clear the steering column. I also banged a dent in the spot of contact on the column., but 1/4" ought to do it. I built a rail for the throttle linkage mounts.

Rear air cleaner needs an extender to clear the slanted frame rail.

I installed the manifold & headers at the same time, originally with the HD6 carbs. Pretty sure HD8s are unnecessary but the manifold is designed for them. Got a pretty good seat-of-the-pants improvment.
