Hello everyone,
New to Jags, new to this forum. Grateful to those that aren't. Trying to get my XJ8 VDP back in top shape. My background - Infantry, Distribution Ops, Construction and now Safety. Hobbies - Outboard motors, Fishing and now Jags. Thanks for having me.
John

Hello John, and welcome to the Forum!

Welcome to the nutty side John, from a fellow Wisconsinite. Where you located?

Hey everyone - and sincere thanks for the warm welcome! I am in Ripon (20 mins SW of Oshkosh). I heard about the Fox Cities British Car Club which is 15 mins from me. I drove by it on Sandpit road the other day after testing out my timing chain tensioner replacements but the place looks like it is open on weekends only. Anyone else know of this club?

I know of them. Pretty well-organised group, from what I can gather. They hold an annual car show, I think at the EAA still? Nice event. Friendly people.

I would recommend Wisconsin Jaguars as well. Good group of people, mostly focus on the older models, but all are welcome and there are some really nice cars in amongst the membership. Just Google the name.

There is also a great event in Sussex, WI every Fathers' Day, held on the village green, rain or shine. All British cars welcome.

I'm in New Berlin, by the way.....

P.S. Do you work for Roundy's?

I used to be a cop, finding that out took me about forty seconds! Actually I found you on LinkedIn..... Should I send a connection request?

I don't work there, (or, strictly speaking, anywhere right now) but I have to say that I am a big fan of the direction in which they're going with their newer stores. Most impressive.

Hey John, I'm a little left and down from you in Portage. A group I'm involved with is the Madison Sports Car Club. A little further from you than the Fox cities area, but the people are fun. We do rallys, autox, and racing. But mainly have fun! Whatever you do, drive it and have fun!

Hey fellas,
Thanks for the all of the club and event info - I am probably going to connect with as many of you and these places as possible just to absorb the experience and knowledge (and maybe even have some good old fun)!

So Steve: I googled myself and found myself in 39 seconds - and no cop background! Ha ha- I must have a faster server (in all respect)! Hey did you see my comment on the '61 Landrover - is that yours?

David - I might try to do some road tripping in July and August (I am planning some free time for sanity's sake) and try to connect.

To both: My wife just announced a special delivery due in 9 months so I will have to cram all of my fun time in ASAP!!! Also - I am mildly Australian so be prepared to observe some Aussie traditional core values (beer, swearing and telling very tall stories).

Howdy John,

I was just driving thru and wanted to wish you a warm "Welcome" from NE PA.

I`m a Jag nut myself. I love & had 4 E-Type Rdstrs and 1 XK140 Rdstr. Un-Fortunately, With the way the costs of these and any Brit High End Cars, It does`nt look like an E-Type in my very near future. So; I currently have a blast driving around in my `59 Bugeye.

Enjoy the ride here & Introduce yourself to the nice folks on the Jag Forum if you already have not.

Regards, Russ

John, "mildly" Australian? I know from first hand experience how "mild" the Aussies can be.

Since you rode Landies in the army would it have been the Australian armed forces? That one in the picture is not mine, but I know where there is an ex-army LWB with canvas tilt down here, hasn't moved in something like fifteen years!

Hey Steve, Longbridgehealey, Hedgehog, Toysrrus, ecurie_ecosse, DrEntropy and SteveTR,

You fellas are alright - I will get some more photos rustled up and try to get the kinks figured out on my XJ8 so she can travel to meet a few of you. My car is 11 years old but kinda new in this forum. Bare with me as I try to clean up my 'Coventry England' Ford Jaguar! At least it wasn't made by Tata Motors, huh?

Cheers.

John,

Infantry? You seem like such a nice guy...

Enjoy, and find your way to the Pub.

Screaming Eagle,

Steve

Ah, but if he is Australian infantry...... Those guys have got one heck of a reputation! Just ask the Germans in two world wars. And that coming from a Pommie, as well!

Bullecourt (WW1), Tobruk (WW2)..... I rest my case

So Steve and SteveTR - you have made me and all my ANZAC brothers proud!

I once travelled to the Somme valley in France to visit some of the very noble memorials of fallen servicemen and the French were very welcoming once they knew I was an Aussie Infantryman. I saw second world war bullet holes and frag marks on cemetary monuments from the first war. I then went north to Normandy to see what the Allies (US, UK and Canada) faced. What a legacy. My Grandad was in Tobruk and then New Guinea as a sapper and unfortunately I never got old enough before he passed away to ask him any meaningful questions about his experiences with the Germans and the Japanese. I can only imagine...

By the way, you have made my day - my ego is expanding rapidly and my head will not be able to make it through the doorway in a sec!

So SteveTR: 101st Airborne huh? Did you have the pleasure of riding in any UH-1's in your travel, you know they officially retired them last week! I enjoyed a few peaceful and unpeaceful trips in them before moving onto the blackhawk.

Cheers again!
